Fair comparison?

State based comp v national comp.

Both second tier comps though...
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

If the SANFL are saying they are not good enough and need to be upgraded, how do they justify scheduling 2 games there?

Norwood also get 2 night games at the neutral Adelaide oval plus a day game there and one at Footy Park and also play West and South under lights. I understand that Centrals got the night games they were after. If they wanted more they certainly would have a case.

However, South get none at Adelaide Oval and if it is relevant that Norwood should have more as they have had lights longer, then should South have more games at Adelaide than Norwood as they have been in the league longer?

My point relates to the declining number of night games at Norwood Oval. The club has invested a lot of time, resources and money to make a success of night games at the Parade over many many years now. Only last year it made a significant upgrade to its lights. Yet it gets 4 games. Ultimately, that is a big financial impost for the club given it has typically had 5-6 night games a year. Central make an investment in lights a few years back now for the Saturday night market and get a paltry two games. Yet South and West seem to be suddenly getting priority scheduling of night games. It seems the reasoning is that Norwood and Central can pull reasonable crowds to most day games but overall crowd numbers will increase by putting night games on aplenty at grounds with lower supporter bases. Great for them, but it's at our expense - both in terms of having a significant investment under-utilised, and in terms of income stream. Effectively, I know that the league just wants us to work harder to draw crowds and thinks it easier for us to do that - hence we had a night game vs South at Easter Thursday last year IIRC, and went to Encounter Bay at Easter prior to that.

I did feel like saying FFS, it's $2 a game!! Thought better of it though. Still, if you feel so strongly about $2 per week or about $40 per year I can only imagine what you would able to write about fuel prices, the cost of my lamb chops for Australia day, Interest rates, school fees etc etc...

$2 a game Booney can also be described as a 20% increase. Regardless, that is but one of numerous changes. I realise you are a strong advocate for the Port club(s) and I don't want to see the SANFL without the Magpies either. In fact, Norwood has done more than other clubs have to ensure that is the case (esp noting the financial contribution made some time back to save the Maggies). But you've just picked out one point and really my moan was about the sum of all these changes. I also get frustrated that Port Power's licence pledges re game attendances have rarely been consistently met, and they have just not been a financial success - for reasons both within and beyond their control and that of the SANFL. The mistakes that have been made are now being passed on to the state comp to redress - both by measures reducing club expenditure and measures increasing income. I'm particularly peeved at being forced to effectively pay for AFL tickets I dont want, via the increase in the season ticket price.

The price increase makes season and home match tickets even more attractive - each club offers great packages.

At the Eagles with a season ticket you can save $130 on ticket and membership - home match save $65 - All details on club website

Why would any supporter NOT buy a season ticket from his/her club ?
Money directly to YOUR club.
YOU save money.
The opposition don't get their grubby little hands on YOUR club's money.

Agree in principal SDK but a season ticket doesn't always suit EVERY supporter...

My Dad has to work maybe 3 or 4 Saturday's a year so he just buys a ticket at the gate for the games he can get to...

Plus there will be some who play sport themsleves and can only make Friday night or Sunday games...

Of course if you are a fan who attends every game but still pays at the gate, then you are just down right silly and ripping yourself and your club off...

Seriously, i believe it's a retrogade step by the sanfl - a tenner is one note and easy to swallow for most people; I guess it's one way of driving people towards memberships.

Last time I bought a flare from a bloke in a ute he wouldn't take concession card for discount. Plus it wasn't even his ute!

that's crap. I know I, like MANY, won't hang around for the 2nd game. They don't need to increase the ticket price, they are making more money by having SANFL supporters there, as well as the people that would normally have gone.

That's the way I see it too.
$2 in itself is not much, but price rises by more than CPI need to be justified by benefits.

Same here, but then again, I can't remember the last time I had the need to buy a ticket at the gate. Membership plus benefits always took care of it

It is only $2 but it is 20% increase.

That means it will only make a small diferrence to you but it will make a large difference to your club.

Sufficient for football, not sufficient for spectators, is the official reason for a reduced number of night matches.

Season tickets have gone up too - from $70 in 2009, to $100 in 2010 (including two "free" AFL games") to $110 in 2011. That's a 57% increase since 2009, and a 10% increase over last year. That's on top of the 20% increase in prices at the gate.

Either way, the SANFL has hiked admission prices big time.
