We had a player in the late 70's / early 80's which was very quick indeed in David Johnston. I think he was a Stawell Gift runner, as well as a Sheffield Shield player as well ?

Ah yes Bruce Light was the one from Port I was trying to think of. Tough bastard too if I remember a few clashes with Fabulous Phil Carmen ...one of them behind the grandstand at Norwood Oval.

he was mid to late 80's WCP.
You might have the correct spelling of his surname as well, I'm not sure.
Anyway, you might recognise him from this pic in 1988.

I think you are getting him mixed up with Dean Mobbs who played around the same time.

IIRC, Paul Northeast won a state sprint under-age title, too...

If you go to here: http://www.salaa.org.au/

Then select Competitions/Records, you will find Northeast in there, along with a few other footballers. Ryan Fitzgerald even holds a few Australian Records.

N Steinberner gets a few mentions over 200m and 400m. I would presume that is Nathan Steinberner - states he is from the Barossa Valley too.

I remember John Hillman thrashing John Cahill in the centre at a Port-Norwood match, and the Port supporters being baffled that Cahill couldn't catch him.
I can't remember what year it was.
