CC, I'm not sure if you saw the ABC game today but they showed Sturt v West in the u/18s at Unley Oval last week and it looked atrocious. With the amount of rain prior to the match, it is hardly surprising that ANY ground suffered dearly by the time you add 50 guys with spriggs for 5 hours or so.

The club has spent a lot of money on Coopers Stadium in recent years upgrading the surface, installing rainwater detention tanks, upgrading the lights etc. We have two full time groundsmen there as well, who are employed by the club. I'm not really sure why so many Sturt supporters want to call the ground a "bog" and a "quagmire" etc because it hasn't been like that in winter for many seasons now, unless there is as much rain as there has been in past days and then it's no different to any other ground.

Footy Park for the match between Port and Richmond is a good example of what the ground is like for the second match, when significant rain falls during the first match.

So what, it's footy, another variable that makes our game and league great. Go play under a roof if you don't want this part of our footy. Winter has extended further into August than it has for the last few years, not much sun and mild weather to dry it out.

ummm, because it was a 'bog' and a 'quagmire'. I saw the Adelaide Now site pics. Any ground that looks like that is called a 'bog' and a 'quagmire'

I'm sure Unley would've been a bog also but the Parade was an absolute bog, after the ressies and before the league game there were deep puddles around and across the ground. Watching a little on tv today Woodville looked pretty good. Let's face it, the Parade was a bog , quagmire, mud pit etc

So apparently it should have been a bowling green last night? Sheesh, tough crowd in here. I'll be sure to pass on to our groundsmen that they should have done much better.

Really it's hard for many grounds to come up with the down pours. It certaily was a bog but hard for many grounds to be anything but.

I dont know what you are trying to read into any statements about the ground, but you should really take a chill pill. We have all said that any ground would have looked that bad after such a downpour. Maybe step away from this thread for a bit.

Seems to be a common theme after your posts.

Well done to Sturt, too good on the night. Norwood should have done more in the first quarter and were simply too inefficient going forward all night. A big, big loss for Norwood in the context of the finals.

You obviously have great difficulty understanding the concept of rain. When it rains, things get wet. When it doesn't, things begin to dry. At the time the Norwood game started it had rained heavily for hours prior to the game. By the time the Woodville game started, it hadn't rained for 18 hours. See how it works?

I was on the oval at 10am Friday morning, the curator had a roller on the ground and apart from some softness around the western boundary and where the baseball diamond is, the ground was quite firm. Had it not rained for the rest of the day we would have seen firm conditions.

People crap on about drainage, but streets have adequate drainage and when it rains as heavily as it did on Friday, we still see pools of water in the drains, there is nowhere else for it to go.

Friday's rain was the heaviest and most consistent I've seen all winter, and anyone expecting the oval to be in any better condition that it was also believes in the tooth fairy, and if that game had been played on Unley, we'd still be searching for players buried in the mud.

It'll be a crying shame for Sturt in two weeks time when they won't be able to say the same thing.

Why are Blues supporters like Doggie supporters?

Because even when their team wins, they still whinge about something!

Its my understanding that the playing conditions on Friday night were the same for both teams.

I'm looking forward to Sturt & Norwood playing at Unley in the middle of next season so we Norwood supporters can re-post the sturt supporters' comments from this thread to the 2011 Unley post-game thead. Unless of course, the Unley park is a perfect playing surface after a (2011) mid-winter downpour.

So that must mean that Sturt have a direct connection to God

Those who believe in such things would probably say God is responsible for the weather

That would make Sturt guilty by association

Ergo...the condition of the oval is Sturts fault.
