The Bays are probably third because none of their supporters are laying money on them, Dutchy! ;)

The question has been asked because no one seems willing to say much about the Bays as premiership contenders, least of all their supporters who are surprisingly silent when it comes to optimism. The media has barely raised an eyebrow at the form of the Bays. 4 losses to Round 19 and outright second on the ladder is impressive stuff, especially being only two points behind the reigning premiers and dominant force of the decade - the Dogs.

If the Bays aren't premiership contenders, yet sit in second after Rd 19, what sort of finish would be a satisying one for the club this year? Third? Runner up? Fifth if you slip a little and get knocked out of an elimination final? I'd suggest that the cflub would be expecting to at least make the GF and if so, that says you are at least expecting to be genuine premiership contenders. It's just that no one in black and gold - nor it seems many others (media or opposition supporters) is prepared to list the Bays as premiership contenders. Now surely that would almost be an offensive suggestion?

LMAO Dedja - I was chuckling at the 1001 odds myself and wondering how many bets they'd taken. Either they read the Roost before framing the market, OR they haven't read the Roost like you Dedja and the odds are definite unders! :D

Centrals beat Glenelg quite clearly twice this this year, and have won three finals in a row in two years against them, including the heartbreaker in last year's 2nd Semi. Glenelg can't win the flag unless they work out how to reverse that trend, and I suggest that would involve getting some different players.

Personally I think Norwood is the main danger in 2010.

Actually, South is the team flying under the radar. Under the ground in fact.

True, the Doggies might have a bit of trouble getting over the 'legs in the qualifying final. #-o

Not sure how that's on topic though? :-s

I think you'll find we've done that in 2010: Fisher, McConnell, Block, Hall and Backwell wont be in this finals series. But it is a challenge we will have to rise too.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

These odds are probably based on the fact that Glenelg has not beaten the dogs this year while Norwood has and maybe the Bays performance in last year's finals.

But that all means nothing come September. It is how the teams play on the day. And Norwood haven't got as experienced a side as Glenelg.

It appears to me that Glenelg have adopted the doggies attitute that the only value of minor round games is to win enough to make the top 3. It all starts again after that.

If I was a betting man I would favour the Glenelg odds due to the factors above.

Exactly.
A first year coach for a start.

Maybe a dozen players who have played one or two finals in 2008. Not sure if any more than a small handful have played at Footy Park either. The Bays have a massive advantage over the Legs if the Legs make the major round this year.

Sometimes youthful enthusiasm can be an advantage though.

There's no pressure on Norwood. All the pressure is on the Bays IMO.

Yes and that may win you a game where you are not favourite but I thought we were talking about a complete campaign inlcuding winning the GF. That means all of the media and public pressure once you have gone further than expected.
