Full marks to Norwood, they didn't overly impress me with their win over North earlier in the year but they were fantastic yesterday.
I was chatting to someone involved with Norwood and he can't believe how North with players such as Alleway, Allan, Archard, Daniel Motlop, Nick Gill, Cain Ackland, etc can be so awful, he said he would have killed to have been able to recruit players like that to Norwood.
He also told me the influence Bassett has had on everyone at the club not just on the playing side of things has been phenomenal and Nathan is doing a fantastic job.
IMHO only Central and Norwood have improved this year on last and considering the Legs couldn't recruit anyone its an amazing effort.
Even the reserves are now playing like the League at North after showing some early season promise, a few of us discussed yesterday how we preferred to go watch North lose by 20 goals most weeks in 2003 rather than the crap dished up these days.
And as per usual the facilities were top notch at Norwood. Dominic and his crew are doing a great job down there.

When North kicked 25.13 against South, was the reaction from the coach/staff either "good job, 9 goal win, kicking 25 goals is great" or was it "ah we let South kick 16 goals, we'll take the win, but that was bad"?

I've said it before, but it's very likely that 25.13 (163) will be the highest score of the season. And North look set to be the lowest scoring team of the year. A combination which is rather fascinating, and unique to the competitions' history.

Personally after the south game i was pissed off that we let a 15 goal win dwindle to a 9 goal win with another non existant last quarter. we even were showing that earlyt that we dont know how to run out a game.

So then it should have been 28 goals to 13, you would say.

At the bare minimum - we lead by 82 points half way through the last quarter and watched South kick the last 6 goals of the game.

The turnovers in defence that day were abysmal. A sign of things to come, but at least there was some direct football ahead of centre that day. George Thring played very, very, very well that day, but he is one player who isn't playing anywhere as well now.

Having talked to ex and current north players, i'd suggest that they don't care for the coach and the gameplan that he's trying to implement. Basically put, they suggest he doesn't really trust the players and favours a faux afl style plan based on ball retention rather than trusting players to win a one on one contest. It's a plan that requires an enormous amount of work and skill that three trainings a week players can't continously uphold. North players have the ability but it seems that they're not allowed to kick to a contest.

Norwood tried this for years under Hill and it was a debacle - Bassett has instilled belief and trust in each other and people are accordingly winning those contests- often the ball is kicked long to a one on one contest with players pushing up to meet it.

Motlop D continued his run of kicking goals when the game is over and looks like he just wants to be elsewhere - he looks like he's not remotely enjoying any form of footer and should be given the rest of the year off.

Funny enough he has actually played a few good games at CHB this year however he best left up fwd to run around and do his own thing - mind you he hasn't been the same player since the Crows got hold of him. Expect him to go home to Melbourne next year!

i agree that he's a forward & should have a licence to roam (who could forget that 6 goal quarter against sturt on a friday night several years ago) however i'm sure i read he played full back in the vfl before venturing over here
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway
