Disagree. Has not played any football for 15 months so I believe should be allowed to play.

So if Riewoldt was a Crows or Port player and didnt come back from his LTI until finals it would be OK for him to play?

This will open a massive can of worms. e.g. Chad Cornes could play for Glenelg after only playing 2 games

Not really, CC has been available for selection nearly all year, Moran hasn't been available at all

but both have been unable to reach the required games tally because of injury so whats the difference?

On this theory Andy Otten could play finals

Would be a joke

I think a player who hasnt played for more than 12 months in the AFL (and remember he has not even been available for selection) deserves a little special treatment. Andy Otten played in the trials for the Crows and they were this year. Moran hasnt played since round 12? last year.

CC has played more for the Power than Glenelg so I think that is a totally different situation. Chad could have played more games for Glenelg but Moran has not had the oppotunity to play more for Westies

The massive difference would be that Cornes has been available and selected by Port for the vast majority of the season. It's a pretty fair difference.
Anyway, I believe it's a discretion so I guess each case would be treated on its merits.

Would be ridiculous if Moran was able to play 2 games and then play finals. There's no way after 2 games you could argue that he deserved to play finals. I get that West fans feel they need him, but take a step back and realise that it would be wrong.

If West supporters are using the moral imperative that Moran deserves to play finals because he's been injured I'd like the SANFL finals pushed back to allow Bryce Campbell to regain fitness and play in them.

It makes as much sense.

Sounds good to me. Central are easier to beat in March than September.

Does anyone honestly think the Crows would allow him to play finals after 15 months out and only a couple of games back?

AFL players who have played in the SANFL this season:

Central District:

3 games: Brad Symes (Crows), Justin Westhoff (Power).

Glenelg

2 games: Cameron Hitchcock (Power). 1 game Tom Logan (Power).

Norwood:

3 games: Taylor Walker (Crows). 2 games: David Rodan (Power).

Woodville-West Torrens:

3 games: Chris Knights (Crows), Jay Schulz (Power). 2 games: Trent Hentschel (Crows). 1 game: Brett Burton, Nathan Bock (Crows).

West Adelaide:

3 games: Jason Davenport, Hamish Hartlett (Power). 2 games: Jason Porplyzia (Crows).

There are only 3 more rounds that players can qualify in, because SANFL Round 23 is the first week of AFL finals. That means only players who have at least 2 games up their sleeve this week, can actually reach 5 qualifying games by Rd 22 and only if they are not selected to play for Port or the Crows this week. At initial glance it seems that Burton, Bock and Logan cant qualify for their SANFL clubs. Without having seen the AFL teams, I assume Rodan and Porplyzia have been named and therefore they cant qualify for SANFL finals either.

I assume Taylor Walker will move on to 4 games (even though Norwood aren't playing this weekend).

No.

the only way he would have moved to 4 games was if he had played for the legs last week OR he plays for another SANFL sides reserves this week.

i think thats how the rule goes anyway

Pretty sure if Walker doesn't play for the Crows this week, and is not an "out" due to injury, then it would count as a Norwood game (at least Im hoping that's correct)

a serious question.

even if taylor walker does qualify what are the chances the crows will let him play SANFL finals.

taking into account how important he will be to the crows heading into the 2011 season.

sames applies for Ricky Henderson .

Yeah dunno mate, fair question(s) though .. It's always a bit of a raffle as to who can play and who can't.

I'd think if both are relatively free of injury (ie, not in need of minor surgery) and they want to play for their SANFL clubs they would probably be allowed, but that's just a guess really.

Both clubs have publicly stated they believe there is value in their qualified players playing in the SANFL finals. Subject to injuries and surgery. However, what's said publicly and what they actually do may be two very different propositions.

I think the big factor with Walker and Henderson is that they both play for the Crows. Historically, I think the Crows have been more open to their players playing SANFL finals than perhaps the Power. Neil Craig also seems to place more value on the SANFL comp and what his players can learn when they are playing there. I really rate Henderson from what I have seen of him but dont know enough about his season to date and whether or not the Crows would be mindful to want him rested or repaired (does he have any niggles atm?) that could affect a decision to release him to Centrals for finals.

Norwood only has one AFL player qualified to date (Young) so other teams with many more qualified players will potentially have the ability to lift their performances another 10% with the selection of qualified AFL players en masse in their SANFL finals teams.
