Enjoyed the night obviously, but won't get too carried away with the result given where both clubs are at ... If anyone wasn't aware of where both clubs sat on the ladder, you only had to watch the behaviour of the crowd - Everyone supported their team, but there was a great sense of banter and humour and standing on the Hill it seemed more of a social occasion than footy match at times, it was kind of odd given past contests, but Im sure most would have had an enjoyable night.
As clubs often do under new coaches, both teams showed patches of excellent football but would let themselves down on regular occasion ... The spirit of both teams was very good, young Trengove made his intentions clear right from the start, which was great to see and what footy should be about.
I said to my mate (Port fan) as the 1/2 time siren sounded "Ok, now lets watch and see who starts a scrap" and within 5 seconds Bryce Campbell and one of the Port lads were letting some good jumper shots go.
Port as I understand are a very young outfit this year, and it probably shows, but they are very quick and not frightened to put their heads over the ball ... Once they can eliminate the skill errors that accompany a team in the position, they can well surprise a few teams - The cattle might not be there for them this year, but I applaud the dip they're having and can see some hope for them.
For us, well we're not too disimilar .. Need to keep working on making less mistakes than the week before, and then hopefully by the end of 2010 we're in a much better position (not ladder-wise) than we were at the end of 2009.
