Godden apologised to supporters last week for going into the game against PA top heavy, he went in again top heavy this week knowing there was a chance of the game being affected by rain. Besides starting with the normal four tall forwards other talls to play up forward were Miles and Thompson. The coach will have to make some hard decisions to balance up the team. Jarred Allmond and James Stewart must be looked at very soon for promotion, Eagles desparately need players who can break a line.
Todd Miles what a team player, gives his all where ever he plays. Credit must also be given to Stuart Hill for some guttsy efforts in the backline.
Godden must continue to develop young players like Hill, Goldsworthy, Rowntree and Staple by playing them in the league side. Good to see Cicca relieved of the burden of not being able to show his undoubted flair.
Norwood if they continue with that game plan will not win very many games and lose supporters, they had a chance to win in the last quarter only being a couple of goals down but playing two men loose in defence gave them little opportunity up forward. A couple of brave decisions by Eagle players to take a chance and kick long in the last quarter in particular Broadbent broke the back of Norwood's resistance.

I should state from the outset, that we only arrived @ 1/2 time (didn't miss much apparently), due to Junior Footy commitments @ Strathalbyn - yes, Strath-frigging-albyn! :twisted:

That said, I saw a couple of things that should be stated...

1. Norwood's skill level was poorest of the 2 sides, hence they lost :shock:

2. I would like to see Welsh played across half-back (just as 'Rocket' Eade did last season @ Footscray) - for these reasons;
a) Salter is MUCH more dangerous when HE is the focal point, IMHO;
b) Welsh needs game time & running straight @ the 'pill' will give him confidence, not only that, but too often yesterday he was 'double-teamed', making it very difficult for him to get free;
c) Having Welsh on the half-back-line 'frees up' Macca to play a far more attacking role (perhaps changing between the back-pocket & on the ball) - his skills shon out from what I saw.

3. Why Symonds continues to be picked (clearly carrying an injured left leg) is beyond me - he is a very good addition to the team, WHEN FIT... if you pick injured players, you are 'dicing with the devil, IMHO.

Am looking forward to an improved showing @ Unley - Junior game starts @ 9am this week, so should be able to make the ENTIRE game!!! (After a few pints @ the Cremorne 1st, that is) :roll:

:shock: Imagine if the Legs had kicked straight in that 1st qtr. Might have been a different result with such a low scoring game?

They straightened up after the long break though - 2 from 2!!!!

I thought at times yesterday Welsh could have been put to half back to get in to the game and find some touch as well. Also agree McKenzie on the ball is a must as often as possible. Symmons copped a bad corky just before quarter time.

A game to forget! Eags will need to improve significantly to test sturt next week. Need an in-form James Stewart and Jarrad Allmond for some run in the side. I reckon we were counting on getting more of Mitch Banner as a runner this year too. Unfortunately, our AFL players are our strength and weakness. Part of the reason CD do so well is because they are not reliant on AFL listed players.
Miles is a credit to himself for getting the most out of his ability. Has held the side together with his efforts in the past 2 weeks.
Barry and Welsh will be better off for the run.

How dare the Norwood Football Club play 1 or 2 extras in their back half. We all know that Salter and Welsh should be allowed 1 on 1 contests at all times.

Hopefully Norwood apologise to "Gods Special Army", as they don't deserve to be forced to watch football games like that. We all know, if you are destined to finish near the bottom of the ladder, then you are supposed to lay down and take 20 goal hidings everyweek.

From my viewing of the game Dale Symmons injured his leg after 1/2 time LEH.
Mind u if its his kicking leg you'd never know the differance.
Must have been a day for injurying left legs Roden hurt his during the match.

You can't blame me for the missing 30 seconds in the 3rd of the u16s as it was Norwood's fault as they had a different timekeeper in the 2nd half of the game.

I don't think a delayed siren worried too many people. :)

I went two weeks ago to Eages/Port and then again on Saturday and I was shocked at the difference of the crowds.

I honestly thought it was about 3,500 for Eages/Port and 1,900 was about right for Saturday, dismal crowd.

Couple of factors.
1. The weather.
2. Match wasnt played where and when originally scheduled, maybe a thousand or so went to Thebby on Fri night :D

Forward line was the issue this time, especially early when we had plenty of it. I thought our midfield won plenty of the ball at stoppages but that was it. As the game went on Eagles always had more players at the fall of the ball in general play and in a low scoring contest, thats where it was won.
