Was very impressed in the reserves game with Jordan Johns.

Pretty sure he is the NSW Scholarship player with the Power.

Has nice run and carry from half back and used the ball well.

Any South people know how young Luke Harrip is ?

He is the lad in the reserves that was cut open on the face in that sickening incident and he lost a lot of blood.

Our work off the ball when not in posession was simply unSouth like. Forward line pressure was really good and we were certainly more structured than I have ever seen us before. Ron has definitely made an immediate impact in my opinion and while tonight means absolutely zero the signs are good that we will at least make the opposition earn anything they get.

Man were the old Norwood cronies sitting in the south west pocket biased or what...... Cracked me up all night!!

Agree WCP - pretty much every aspect of the Panthers game was "un-south-like", which is so pleasing to see. Clearly Fuller is creating change, and the boys seem to hang off every word he says - respecting a coach = another un-south-like thing.

In fact, the only South-like thing I witnessed last night was Norwood's league team. While South applied relentless pressure, Norwood were unsipid - no gameplan, no structure, no care-factor. South should be bouyed by their effort, but the Double Blues will be a class up on that rabble and the Panthers will need to improve yet again if they are any chance.

went to the game last night, south did well, new style of running the ball by hand and kicking it long to the forward lines. only concern is that warren was sometimes going 2 on 1, what they need is a small crumbing working under the feet of warren so when he drops the mark, there is a player there for the ball. at times also too many panther players were going for the mark when the old adage of one up and one down would have been ideal. what to say about norwood, not much at the moment, rely too much on gallagher, mcguiness can be undiscplined at times which would frustrate the supporters, dont think either teams will make finals this year, they do need some work on their skills, but can surprise some teams this year when it does click for them.

Heard he's not too good mate, word I heard is broken nose, cheekbone and jaw (along with a fair gash) - Hope somewhere along the line the wrong story was communicated, because thats a pretty horrific injury.

Regardless of the extent of damage I hope the lad gets pain free and back to full health ASAP.

I cannot believe how disappointing friday night was as a norwood fan. What an insipid soft effort. It is quite clear that our young "guns" are not as good at the highest level that the club is pinning its hopes on. No point get 12-15 soft touches each. Anyone can do that. Let the kids develop naturally as the damage Bassett and co are going to create is clear. Why have we gone down the bassett path - you can already see no game plan etc. I hope like hell I am wrong but ........ the start is not encouraging. Fitness is one thing - getting the ball and using it is another.

C'mon mate, 3 trial games (one of which sounded impressive) is a bit early to make these assumptions surely?

I reckon Bassett's first big gig is to reduce the gap between the best and worst performances the club displays ... No easy feat and certainly won't be achieved in the space of 3 trial matches.

Players don't always play to instruction and a coach needs time to address not only that, but evaluating the cattle at his disposal and deciding who stays and who goes.

Yes us Norwood fans will all have our fears about the onfield future given the last 10 years, but we are THAT far behind the pack that we need to start somewhere, and at least we have a Norwood man in charge and one who wont "coach for survival" to such an extent that it cheats the club of playing those whose form has earnt them the right to wear a Norwood guernsey.

Personally I view this season as stage 1 of 3 ... Of course everyone wants to win the flag every year, but it just isn't possible and you have to start somewhere.

I'd also be very wary of reading too much into the last trial game before the season starts.

Some players are often focused on Round 1 rather than a trial game.

Agree. Over the last few years, we have won far more trials than we have lost without backing it up.

The real fear is that by playing these kids before they are ready is asking for trouble. They are undoubtably talented but you don't have to be einstein to realise they are still 2 to 3 steps behind. When they play against men they will be smashed. It is a bit different to playing other kids and college footy. Let them play a season of 18's and ressies, train with the league and develop em properly. Norwood are past masters of promoting their kids and then losing them. Has happened for 30 years now. The current crop no exception.

Mate there's no doubt the club did lose a lot of promising kids throughout the 80's and 90's (maybe 70's, I dont know) - Some were lost unnecessarily perhaps through rushing their development, others because they couldn't crack an A grade berth in what were generally strong teams.

The flip-side is that in the 60's we were renowned for importing often at the expense of our own home grown talent, so over the years the club has been damned if they do and damned if they don't.

I just reckon Bass and the current admin need much longer than before their 1st real season commences before they get shot down ... Your opinion may well prove correct, but I think it's only fair to give them a reasonable amount of time to find out.

there was also an opinion at the top that juniors had to progress through the 19's then reserves then league - the only real standout that didn't do this was one g mcintosh - even gerry d'antiocha played a swag of reserves games. norwood lost plenty of gun juniors because of this policy.

i'm all for giving juniors a run in lague trials - it gives them an introduction to the level expected as well expose them to higher standards. some will find out that it can be done and they adjust accordingly while others find that they need the extra year at junior level. at the end of the day, trial form counts for bugger all - see ours from last year and its easier to introduce juniors when the pressure is off - and often reward them for the hard work done over the pre-season.
always forgive your enemies...nothing annoys them so much

Sadly for Luke, the South lad who had his face smashed up in an aweful incident last Friday night, it's not good news...

His season is over before it began with, as mentioned by CP above, a broken nose, broken jaw, fractured cheeckbone and a fractured eye socket.

Terrible injury for the lad, let's hope he recovers well and will be back playing footy again in 2010.
