I was there that night. Were you with the group who started throwing beer bottles around in the car park?

definately not throwing beer bottles around anywhere, never mind at Centrals where i would be shattered if i couldn't go.

Brucetiki, I agree with you initial post that Centrals will get more benefit from the AFL game is this instance, however, I'm with Hazy and whufc about the arrogance of the AFL.

Drama queens? I'd say its' the AFL being the drama queens.

Could say it shows how the AFL are in their own little Melbourne bubble - they surely don't know much about Adelaide if they think Elizabeth is gonna get a deluge in the first week of March :D

Early forecasts were for 10-20mm of rain on Friday (which have now been downgraded to 5mm if we're lucky on Saturday). Had 20mm of rain fell on Friday, the Centrals v Eagles trial would have had a bigger impact on the surface for the game on Saturday.

I also think the AFL have been embarrassed by the state of both Etihad Stadium and Traegar Park which has prompted their sudden paranoia of surface conditions - noting they've also moved the Brisbane v Geelong game from Southport to Visy Park because of the anticipated condition of Southport after a deluge.

Had ACDC not wrecked Etihad and Traegar Park not resembled the Todd River I doubt the AFL would have cared (hence the very late notice).

Brucetiki - My favourite weather girl Mel assured us there would be no more than 5mm very early in the week. And like I've alluded to in a previous post, I'm sure the sprinklers would have been going overtime in the last couple of weeks or so to make sure the oval was in tip top shape.
Nah - the AFL are just being precious...
It's no big deal to the Dogs in the big picture of things, it's just the pettiness that annoys me.
The positive is that we get to play one trial away from home, which I think is a better balance in terms of preparation.
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

Fair enough, but how much rain did Alice get and Southport expect? I'm guessing far more than 40mm.

Perhaps we should be offended that they don't think we are a professional enough league to produce ovals of greater quality that can cope with a bit of rain than these more regional centres :(

I'm determined to be pi$$ed off with the AFL about this no matter what argument is used for them!!

Lol at Centrals for wanting a AFL pre season match, then programming a trial there the same weekend. Ever heard of away games?

Yes, we should take advice from Port when organising our club. Got two of them and still couldn't get it right?

No, it took us getting our act together to win a premiership.

At least now your club understands joining a league that is already established isn't that easy - and I doubt the flag in '04 would have come their way without recruiting concessions granted to all new teams as well as an equalisation policy in the comp. Neither of these existed for Centrals when entering the comp, it was sink or swim (we may have dog paddled a while but we did eventually swim).

It's a reserve and league combined trial over six quarters, so all of them - unless injured!

Lol at people who actually don't have a clue about how the game was organsied. Central at no stage asked for a NAB cup match to be played there, this was organised by the Port Power F.C and the Playford council who own the oval, then agreed upon by the AFL.
