It matters because the sponsorship is worth a lot of money to the SANFL and the SANFL clubs and the sponsor may not be so happy about North's new deal.

Well North has some right to make the best commercial decisions for it's business operations and despite all the stuff that has been written, maybe West End and the SANFL should have looked at supporting the clubs a little better with the "major" sponsorship deal so they didn't look "outside" which a number of clubs have raised in recent years. It is the SANFL and AAMI that benefit most out of the West End Sponsorship through products sold at Football Park.
BTW North will continue to stock and sell West End Products at Prospect and at it's two licensed venues and support the Leagues Beer sponsor at the same time. The Northern Tavern has been selling Coopers and many other rival West End products in it's bars and the bottle shop ever since we aquired the lease and there hasn't been any stink about that? North couldn't turn it's back on a sponsorship from Coopers which is far better than the deal we get via the SANFL West End Sponsorship.

I would imagine those at SANFL head office wouldn't be overly happy with this though.

The Japs can go **** themselves, its free enterprise in Australia. The way North fans drink they'd probably still sell more West End than half of the clubs that sell it exclusively anyway.
I certainly wouldn't go to a pub that doesn't offer me a good variety, in the tough economic climate out there footy clubs should be able to provide variety as pubs do, we don't live in a Communist state!

That sponsorship didn't seem to hurt the SANFL - West End deal otherwise why would it have stood so long?
The SANFL and West End should have been more competitive re matching any sponsorship proposals from it's rivals but as usual the SANFL Executive has shown it's apathy towards the SANFL and it's clubs except now where Lion Nathan have obviously complained to them. Perhaps Lion Nathan should question the people supposedly in charge of the SANFL and it's interests instead of the SANFL Exec taking the easy option and point the blame at a club(s) for trying to improve their financial bases?
There is much more behind the "politics" of this "Beer" issue than what is being reported selectively in the 'Tiser.

I'd be interested in hearing the facts from you.
PS: Any other news from Prospect of interest?

And the Beer issue is not all the SANFL fault, never said it was. You can portion some blame to Lion Nathan if you want to get political.
