It's a bustling metropolis according to artists impressions. I remember drawings of the MATS plan, a proposal for a spire on the old John Martins site and the dozen plans for Footy Park with buildings and apartments around it.

Anyone remember the plan to convert Cheltenham into the main stadium?

Fair enough, they probably should do that but they haven't so my point still remains, the SACA use Adelaide Oval for alot more then 7 days a year. Even if you take those womens games out then there is at least 20 days of use compared to 22 AFL games (+ finals). If you do it on an 'hours used' basis without the womens games, the cricket would win hands down anyway. Total crowds, well that's a different story.

If you want to spend that much money build a "telstra type" stadium some where very accessible.
Adelaide Oval will be just fine the way it will be after the present upgrade.
All this propaganda just before an election, It happens every time.
The list goes on and on Mats plan, Monarto, South road/Port Road underpasses, Sturt road/South Road underpass, Chowilla dam to save the Murray.
Sadly into todays world talk is extremely cheap. Action very lacking.

Be good for my footy club a meal in the Bay Bar and bistro, a little flutter on the pokies and maybe watch a little cricket on Snouts Hill. A little cut the SACA's way and the rest to the Glenelg Footy Club. All good I say, good way to keep up the summer revenue.

I think this plan looks fantastic, and a lot more concrete than the Libs 'lets paste Etihad Stadium into the railyards and claim it as our vision' plan. Only thing that looks iffy is the northern end hill, but I reckon that will go as well if Australia somehow wins their World Cup bid - though that's as simple as a single tier of seats ala what the SCG did with their hill.

If AAMI is reduced to 15K (I presume the Members wing would be retained and the rest of the stadium bulldozed) for SANFL games, I take it it'll be predominantly neutral games ala Adelaide Oval pre-2007. I expect AAMI to discontinue the naming rights, so it'll more than likely revert back to Football Park as well.

Hate to be cynical, (not really it's just my nature), but doesn't this do a magnificent job of deflecting attention off a certain Premier's alleged indescretions??

Firstly the artists impression is that of a dogs breakfast of a stadium. Surely wouldnt have taken more than 10 minutes to mock that up. Quite frankly it looks ridiculous.

Secondly, I'll believe the SACA & SANFL can get on when hell starts to freeze over.

Thirdly, and let me get this right, Footy Park will remain as a training venue and host for SANFL games! Even if they knock all the grandstands down, tell me which clubs will be queing up to schedule games there??

After the initial romance of playing AFL games in the city is forgotten, I think people will realise that there are many hurdles to overcome before this stunt gains any real momentum.

Personally think it looks great and a lot more realistic than Izzy's desperately cynical backflip. Sure, there will be Liberal voters trying to knock it down before it begins just because it's Mike Rann, there will be the Council wanting to stamp their antiquated seal all over it, there will be the parklands Nazis holding firm on their perceived patch, the Adelaide Oval protectionists not wanting to sacrifice the ambience of an empty tree-lined picnic ground for one that it's actually enjoyable to view sport at, there will be the North Adelaide residents kicking up a stink...this is Adelaide's culture sadly. Here's a chance to change that for the better and wipe the stinking slate clean IMO. AFL, SANFL, NRL, NBL, RSL - I couldn't care less. Bring it on!

This has been planned for 18 months or so and was pushed hard by Andrew Demetriou.

Only Jimmy and Hazydog would credit Rann with that much brilliance that he could not only orchestrate the AFL, the SANFL and the SACA to have this ready to be announced, but also know 18 months in advance that the Chantelois saga and Isabel's announcement would be made public only a week or two before.

Anyone with that much foresight has got my vote

I can't see the lawn area remaining. I'd say that will just be left in there to keep people happy and will be taken out further down the track.

How they work out the memberships will be interesting. Both codes will want to improve the deals for their members.

There seems to be two schools of thought as to how it is done. I'd like to see it done in one hit rather than a staged approach, finances permitting. As suggested just move cricket to AAMI or where ever for one summer. Otherwise it will just drag on.

It's a good idea for the SANFL to keep a ground of some form they can call their own. I think the SACA should do the same and move most of the domestic cricket away from the stadium except for the 20/20, a few one dayers and perhaps one four day game.

Be good to see United play at least a couple of games there as well. They hang onto Hindmarsh so they keep their base.

The agreement legislates for the periods that footy has first control of the stadium for use - early March to MId October - and the same for when cricket has first use - mid-October to early March

That will work out pretty poorly if and when SA earn the right to host a shield final.

There are going to be clashes but they should be able to work around them. I think the SACA and the SANFL will need to get better at turning the ground around between different sports.

Thast the other good thing about having it, apart from footy and cricket, we could hold a A-League GF if we earnt the right to host it, we can demand some top notch socceroo games, visiting european teams, plus Wallabies etc etc

Why not just build a training oval right next to Adelaide Oval and use that for the smaller matches?

Hopefully with the ACC not being allowed to decide on developments over $10 million, and the project almost certainly getting major project status, that should stop the council and North Adelaide Residents Association from sabotaging the project.

I fail to see a downside to the development. More footy, (SACA can go after other clubs to play home games at AO), more cricket, more "other sports" , although most aren't worth watching, all at a venue easier to get too, and with better facilities. Taking politics out of it, how is it a bad thing?

It's a bad thing Snoozing Big Man because the average Adelaidian is scared of change, we fear change ( well, not me anyway ) and regardless of how good the proposal may look in its infancy people jump on the back foot and begin the process with a negative mind set.

I can't see anything with this proposal that looks to be a negative for the people of Adelaide.
