Probably not the best full forward this decade BUT he would certainly be the best and most influential key position player this decade.

Yep, wrongly put. Chambers has the best record as Full Forward this decade, but I'd pick Schell ahead of Chambers at Full Forward in my team.

Has Schell kick 100 goals in a season??

No, his best was 81 in 2005. He won the Ken Farmer in 2004, 2005 and topped the CDFC goalkicking in those years and 2006. I think that his team-man approach (he often gives off when he could score himself) and the fact that he has often been switched to a defensive position for team balance has probably cost him the opportuinty to kick 100. But he usually eprforms in big games which can't be said for some of the other contenders.

Damian Squire was a fine player, but did he do enough 2000-2009? His Magarey's were in the 90s IIRC. Perhaps just didn't do enough in the required period, despite perhaps being first picked in any 95-05.

No second ruckman is stupid. What SANFL team has been selected with one ruckman? Not sure who it would be though, but I'd suggest Craig Parry has been one of the top ruckmen here for many years. And we only select 3 on the bench for games, so only 3 on the bench for this team. The big regret I have with the dogs team of the first 40 years is the number of players on the bench. All they do it for is to stroke an ego or two. But I think it cheapens the whole concept knowing they tried to squeeze everyone in rather than picking the best ruthlessly.

So this is the team I'd pick

FF: J. Clayton B. Chambers M. Passador
CF: C. Gowans D. Schell J. Cicolella
C: D. Healy (c) J. Sheedy S. Arnott
HB: H. Hopwood P. Sherwood P. Thomas
FB: B. Nelson C. Ah Chee T. Hay
R: P. Lindsay J. Gowans B. Backwell
Int: C. Parry T. Weatherald M. McKenzie

Obviously a lot of dogs players, being biased as I am but playing in all GFs and winning 7 I don't see much argument against that.

This is more like it...

I would add Bello instead of Backwell. Marco used to get the ball for himself.

Going back to the initial side, here is the side with games played in brackets. I can't guarantee the games are 100% correct, but I'm confident they are. Let me know if you spot any errors:

FF: Jeremy Clayton (89) Brant Chambers (186) Mark Passador (113)
HF: Chris Gowans (198) Daniel Schell (144) Justin Cicolella (182)
CL: Daniel Healy (90) Jade Sheedy (202) Brett Backwell (148)
HB: Heath Hopwood (125) Paul Sherwood (169) Paul Thomas (148)
FB: Brett James (134) Corey Ah Chee (206) Ben Nelson (138)

1R: Paul Lindsay (153) James Gowans (201) Gavin Colville (142)
INT: James Allan (61) Mark Mackenzie (147) Matthew Slade (212) Tim Weatherald (200)

I would have thought part of the criteria would include 50 games in this time (as they do)
The 8 players who have played the most games between 2000-09 are in that side; the 9th is Mark Clayton with 177.

You would actually think Daniel Hargraves deserves to be in the side:
Goals kicked (avg per game):
Chambers 625 (3.36)
Hargraves 486 (3.06)
Passador 312 (2.76)
Schell 311 (2.16)
Warren 308 (2.12)

Without any qualification period, here is the 10 highest goal to game ratio:
Ryan Fitzgerald 1 8 (8.00)
Warren Tredrea 1 7 (7.00)
Darren Bradshaw 23 97 (4.22)
Michael Hare 1 4 (4.00)
Adam Richardson 49 196 (4.00)
Brant Chambers 186 625 (3.36)
Taylor Walker 26 85 (3.27)
Chris Kluzek 43 136 (3.16)
Stuart Dew 14 44 (3.14)
Daniel Hargraves 159 486 (3.06)

OK, it has to be asked spelly. Who the hell was/is Michael Hare? He's not even on your 'every player' list.

That one game Hare played was for Glenelg in Round 23 2003. This was the same match that Lucas Block debuted in. Hare replaced Craig Tasborski whose hamstring injury kept him out of the selected side. At the time Hare was 17, and wore no. 52.

His stats according to the Advertiser were:

6k 1m 5h 4 goals

I don't know where he went after this match; or where he came from, so that's best left to Glenelg colleagues on here.

And he's not even on the list? Well, I'll have to do something about that. ;)

If only this bloke could have strung more than a couple of games together without being injured.

Was this Michael Hare an aboriginal player ?

I think it might be the same guy that I played A Grade with at Eastern Park in the early 2000's ???

I reckon he might have played some reserves footy at Norwood as well ???

The other notable trivia from the match, played at Alberton, is that this was the game in which Glenelg's Phil Bennett collided with a goalpost and the post snapped. There was only a five minute half time interval as a result. Hare kicked four straight.
