And whilst there's been a couple of bad apples in just about every denomination, the good work the Church (as a whole) does within the community far outweighs the couple of bad apples. It's not as if the Church and football haven't joined forces before - how many years have the Salvos had tins outside entry gates for, and of course Life FM broadcasts SANFL matches.

I am not talking about "the church", I am talking about "The Assemblies of God Denomination".

The Salvos have tins outside the football and use the funds to help the homeless, the AOG raise funds to use to pay for their ministers to have HSV Commodores, interest free home loans, Mega Salaries etc etc.

Huge difference between a group like the Salvation Army and the AOG, go look into how the Divisional commander of the Salvation Army is renumerated as opposed to the Senior Minsiter at Edge Church and let us know what you find out.......

Don't Pentecostal churches like the AOG have issues with poker machines?

Not even remotley Bruce!

In the context of this whole debate, this quote says a lot to me.
It says to me, you really dislike the AOG for all of the reasons you've mentioned above. Understandable.
However, you'd overlook any problems with a Catholic/Anglican church if they were involved.
Just feels a little hypocritical to me.
All churches have the same issues, it's just that the more 'established' churches are very keen to downplay an emerging branch of Christianity in order to maintain their relevance in our increasingly secular society.

I take your point and yes I do admit that no doubt there would be issues within the Catholic and Anglican Churche, yet I would like to point out that those groups do attempt to deal with those issues, whereas I dont see the same resolve in the AOG denomination.

Let me point out that I have no actual problem with "Churches" in general, yet I do have issues with any church group that treats people in the above manner, you may well refer to some of those types of groups as emergent type churches, yet I would in the same manner place groups such as - Independant Fundamentalist Baptist, Christadelphian, Exclusive Brethren and similar groups who are also traditional churches that carry on in the same manner albeit with a different set of doctrines.

Football's an amusement, in the overall scheme of things.

But on a Saturday afternoon for a while it does take on a particular importance!

Perhaps, but I don't think it would be a major stumbling block in any partnership/sponsorship arrangements between the Panthers and Edge Church.

My suggestion is to search for the lyrics of "Haillie Sallasse, Up Your Ass" by Propagandhi...

Will they play "Awesome God" after each goal instead of that stupid roaring panther noise?

AHA we've found the reason the Panthers don't win - the players hate the sounds of nails scraping down a blackboard (aka the Panther sound) so kick as few goals as possible so they don't have to hear it much.

ANYTHING would be better than that sound

Not because it wasn't wanted.... just wasn't required very often....
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

"Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition", the words to an old battle hymn that more than likely will come out again next season for a struggling coach! Bang! ;)
