Sure he will add to your near non existent mid-field but it will take more than him to be classed as a strength.

As R&B pointed out with Davenport, Caruso, Birss and possily Hartlett it is what i would consider a strength of ours nothing   about it.

Pleased to get McKernan, he will add a bit of size which we desperately need. Don't know much about Jordan Johns though, any comments?

Hey Blue & White, off the topic, what's happened to our fan forum site, maybe the annual report response has crashed it?

Jordan Johns played for NSW/ACT in the U18 champs this year as a bottom ager. Is one of Ports NSW scholarship players. Is around 187cm tall and plays predominantly as a midfielder. Quite quick, good skills.

Jess Laurie is around 184cm and 90kg. Port see him as a midfielder, but he played at CHB for WA in the champs this year (despite being undersized), so can also play in the backlines. Good competitor.

SANFL MINI DRAFT - check further details in Eagles news and at our website.

The SANFL Mini Draft was conducted today with the Eagles in the unfamiliar position of having 2 selections at numbers 4 and 13.

Our first selection was used to take Mitch Banner from the Power.

Banner was selected at pick 42 in the National Draft and is described by the AFL website as a "Small Midfielder who wins his own ball and has good disposal by hand and foot.
Eagles coach Ron Fuller said "we are delighted to have secured Mitch with our selection in the SANFL Mini Draft."

The Club's second selection was used to secure Sam Martyn, a NSW Scholarship player from the Crows.

Good to see the Eagles are banking on the candys and paps to get players for them instead of getting off their buts and doing it for themselves . We still need plenty more quality players tho

They are obviously happy with the playing list down at the Eagles at the moment - have they forgotten some of the rubbish that we had to sit through last year

I was referring to your mid-field in 08 as being virtually non-existent. We've heard it all before from Westies and their boom recruits and you may have to spread them out rather than all on ball.

Anytime you want to back your SANFL knowledge against me, feel free

Well, G, wyc's initial post merely stated that Davenport would add to our midfield strength. A factual statement that no-one would argue about, whatever team he was chosen by. Nowhere did he talk about our 2008 midfield.

You decided to be a smartarse and have a crack at West's 2008 midfield. wyc and I pointed out that Shayne Birss, Davenport, Caruso, Hartlett, etc would form a reasonable midfield. If you disagree with that, I'd question your judgement and I did.

I don't feel the need to pit my knowledge of the SANFL against you or anyone else. We're all SANFL fans with our own store of knowledge, but I'm happy to be tested against you any time :D

As i said in my post i said it will be our strength i didn't say that it will be the best in the comp. I believe that with some of the recruits i mentioned earlier and some of the young players we have coming through we will have a competitive midfield unit in 09. Yes it would be great if we had some more to spread out as we will need that. I am more than happy to back my knowledge against yours  .

Why did the Doggies get stuck with the basketballer, Ricky Henderson. Won't be any use to us, let the Crows do their own dirty work if there gonna draft basketballers then they should experience the frustration of developing them! Its not like there was'nt any footballers to chose in this years Rookie draft - it was supposeably loaded with quality talent. IMO Henderson will unlikely even make the Centrals Reserves side!

But having said that if anyone can fast track a young one, Roy Laird would be the man!

My dear friend, to play footy you need to be more than an athlete, you've actually got to possess good footy skills as well.

G, I know your knowledge of the SANFL is not strong, but I think Jason Davenport, Hamish Hartlett and Shane Birss are reasonable on-ballers.

Your team stuffed up again, they always pick the player thats least likely to play for them. IMO Jason Davenport will end playing for Port Power most of the year. Your should have picked a Crows player.
Your team did the same last year by picking Brad Moran in the mini draft..no wonder West are always bottom with poor decision makers running the club!
