It always amazes me that these players turn out to be the highest paid players when they're getting cut, or retiring, etc.

When they first come, they're easily fitted in under the cap because they're playing for much less than other clubs offered them :?

I see it has been said in the div 1 forum that Kane Officer has signed to play with Gepps Cross a very talented footballer and one that i can not belive got told his services are no longer required. He is very unlucky not to have a couple of League flags under his belt and at 24 still has alot to give i would have thought at SANFL level.. What are your thoughts???

He's had opportunities to prove himself, disappointing that he couldn't do that.

If he were that, he wouldn't be moved on.

If he were that, he would have played a considerable amount of league footy as those 3 have missed some footy in recent years.

It's always disappointing when someone who promised so much and is a likeable guy and a good club man is moved on but it is a fact of footy that it happens.

Well summed up smac - that scenario applies at all clubs.

Do we know for a fact that Kane was told his services would not be required for season 2009 ???

Perhaps he realised it would be a struggle to get into the league team and can go and earn good money playing in Div 1...

When will we sign our first recruit, surely not every player we are after will get drafted.Already lost N.Street dont want to see the other Street at the club as he is a waste of space and money ruckman.Anyone heard anything on players training at the club like Wilson,Faulkner or Williams. So when will that first recruit be signed, will it be before xmas after the new year or sometime before the first trial?

I think like a fair majority of recruits to the SANFL for season 2009, you wont be seeing many official announcements from the club until after next weekends draft. Even the clubs have had players put pen to paper so far are on the proviso that they are not redrafted into the AFL.

Be patient Jardog, I'm sure we will start to hear a fair bit more in the coming weeks, especially like I say, after next weekends AFL Draft.

Lots of talk in Port Pirie over the weekend that Elijah Ware has been given 'a year off his contract' by CDFC and that he will line up for Proprietary-Risdon Lions in 2009.
Noodles was apparently in Port Pirie and making comments to that effect.

From what I know, he has requested a year off from SANFL football because he and his wife want to start a family and the time commitment for training 3 nights a week and games on weekends means he doesn't feel he could commit 100% to the Dogs.

It was mentioned that he lives down South and has to travel a bit for training and games etc so that was also another one of the reasons. So unless he doesn't train and travels up to Pirie for games on the weekend, not sure what will happen there with Noodles. He is a Pirie lad originally so maybe he will relocate up there but then he works for the Gowans boys so who knows ???

Only time will tell, we will have to wait and see I guess...

Good news if thats true about Eddie,Phil. It would be great to see Faulkner,Wilson,Ware,A.Varcoe and Sansbury playing in the same team but highly unlikely.Yes I am very impatient regarding recruits BP,Im hoping that we recruit a little better than last season.

Plenty of time to wait for recruits. Can't remember the last time we announced anything of note prior to Christmas.

And I thought last year worked out OK Jardog, didn't you?

I reckon you're on the $$ LipSmaccin, whereas a few clubs get in early (pre-draft) the Dogs always seem to wait until they can look toward the best (and most suitable) of that post draft pool ... They have the runs on the board, I wouldn't be too concerned if I were a pups supporter.

Agreed SP. I really like the way that the club announces the new recruits as part of its pre-season build-up. It gets us media attention when we want people to start thinking about the footy again. A very professional approach I think.
