I answer the question honestly and you blokes jump up and down.
Go back to the thread at the start of the year where most West supporters were spruiking Andy Collins was going to recruit and get West moving up the ladder and pushing for a spot in the 5   .
Next year they might win an extra game or two but they're still long odds on for the Spoon.
Yes my mob were verging on being a disgrace but I dont believe the topic said anything about North.

G, fair enough u think west will struggle and languish at the bottom of the table
:D

But it might be the way you put things that annoy people

"G Wrote - In answer to the original question - CRAP again "

G, wycbloods, the sturtpeters of the world, Thiele's are passionate and luv their teams and are forever hopeful. U could be 100% correct but is "CRAP again" the right term????

G & Test I have on comment further on your comments from the eye of a West supporter

West supporters (me included) have been guilty of

1 Wearing rose coloured glasses
2 Overating a very ordinary playing list
3 Overating the recruits we pick up at the start of each year
4 Supporting with our hearts and not our eyes
On paper our best side before the season started looked very competitive, but the facts were, we had overated players, aging players that were not up to anymore sadly

Question G, at the start of and the early part of 2008, any teams supporters that predicted Norths would finish 7th with the list they had was a fool, on paper it was a Top 1,2 or 3 side. Half way during the season any honest supporter would have not said Centrals were a monty for the Grand Final, and brush Struts and the Bays aside with the ease that happened. Did you predict this was going to happen????

My thoughts on 2009
We have had a massive player turnover, HONESTLY, who knows if the club can recruit the players that will take us of the bottom, but we as usaual are always hopeful. If i was a potential recruit from the VFL or The AFL, would I choose to play for West (bottom for 4 years) or get the same money in victoria or again the same money at one of the other top 7 clubs here. Sorry Souths people, I think you face a similar hurdle to us, very soundly near the bottom and on top of that, having to drive down South all the way to Norlunga in the cold, windy winters we have to play football wouldnt be my first choice.

Summary
In my heart Im hopeful of getting of the bottom and finishing 4,5,6,or 7th. But in reality at this stage I predict we will fight the spoon out again with Souths and ourselves :( :( :(

Souths supporters as few as they are like Westies supporters, Im not intentionl disrepecting yourselves but thats were I see the upcoming year

PS Wouldnt it be great to see West Beat Souths by 9 points in the 2009 Grand Final

I think this is reasonable prediction G and one that may still be a little biased as a west supporter.

OK I agree my terminology wasnt exactly called for but the point was, I believe and I think 80% of posters here would agree if you had to put money on, that West will win the Spoon again.
I think South have more upside than the Bloods.

Souths advantage I feel is that the side does have some depth, our issue is if the side can be coached in the right way to draw the best out of the playing group and I feel that the jury is still out on that one.

South have retained most of the playing group and this is a group that managed to knock Glenelg off twice, Port at Alberton and some more wins and a draw. South will name some good recruits into the side soon and I do feel its not unreasonable to suggest that South will be more competitive on the field this season. I realise all to well what Westies supporters are going through having won 4 spoons, yet I feel that Westies will have to show some very strong recruiting to make a case for handing that Spoon to South!

Still remember that Sturt were not unlike West at one stage and are now a very competitive side after Phil Carman made them so, there is no reason not to expect that Andy Collins will not do the same for Westies, and in answer to the above I would very much like to see South play you in a final albeit with us on the winning side of the margin! 8)

I hope you're right about South improving, sojourner.

The only case I'd make for West as opposed to South is that west only won two games last year.

Both against South :)

Congratulations Westies, I believe you have a ruckman for next year...DeJong from Norwoods reserves I have been told. You are also in the mix for another peron from the same club who is doing the rounds...and a few of these clubs think they are close to gaining him.

Someone closer to Norwood care to elaborate on the sort of season Dejong had last year???

I don't mind Westies looking at young players, in the hope to build a side for the next 8-10 years...but you'd hope Dejong isn't just going to get smashed around every week by the other league ruckmen...
