I was speaking to someone from the ABC today and he is fearful that the ABC will drop coverage of the SANFL completely and in its place will come NSW rugby.

Does anyone know who the federal minister is who is responsible for the ABC and a contact address or email address?

This from Wiki might be of help...for some reason trying to add it as a link doesn't work.

The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy is currently Senator the Hon Stephen Conroy. He replaced Senator the Hon Helen Coonan (Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts) on 3 December 2007.

The previous Minister had overall responsibility for all of the matters falling within the Communications, Information Technology and the Arts portfolio:

* Broadcasting
* Information and Communications Technology Industry
* Information economy
* Telecommunications
* Arts and Sport

[edit] Agency and bodies

Portfolio agencies and bodies include:

* Australia Business Arts Foundation Limited
* Australia Council for the Arts
* Australian Broadcasting Corporation
* Australian Communications and Media Authority
* Australian Film Commission
* Australian Film, Television and Radio School
* Australian Government Information Management Office
* Australian National Maritime Museum
* Australian Postal Corporation
* Australian Sports Commission
* Australian Sports Drug Agency
* Bundanon Trust
* Film Australia Limited
* Film Finance Corporation Australia Limited
* National Archives of Australia
* National Gallery of Australia
* National Library of Australia
* National Museum of Australia
* National Portrait Gallery
* NetAlert Limited
* Old Parliament House
* Special Broadcasting Service Corporation
* Telstra Corporation Limited

The Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy (DBCDE) is an Australian government department. The department's policy areas include:

* Broadband policy and programs
* Postal and telecommunications policies and programs
* Spectrum policy management
* Broadcasting policy
* National policy issues relating to the digital economy
* Content policy relating to the information economy

The responsibilities of this department were formerly a part of the Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts (DCITA). DCITA was dissolved in December 2007 with the election of the Rudd Government. Responsibility for the arts was transferred to the new Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts and the responsibility for sports was transferred to the Department of Health and Ageing.

Do you have a broadcasting ombudsman or complaints commission...ie an independant body that complaints can be submitted to and that has the power to act on them...might also be worth looking into.

I used to find Helen Coonan quite accessible through her support staff when I was running a little campaign because of difficulties getting reliable Broadband at my office. Her PA used to ring me back rather than email. I haven't tried with her successor as, with her help, it all suddenly turned out to be possible.

Telstra had been telling my landlord for 4 years that nothing but their unreliable [in the location] cable was possible in the area, and told me they couldn't connect a second independent cable service to the premises. Then suddenly they could - if I paid for an upgrade in the street. Then 2 hours later Optus rang, asked for all the phone numbers at the premises, 6 lines, and identified within an hour that some could carry ADSL, which telstra still said was impossible. It worked fine.

I hadn't had need to contact her about the ABC back then.

Let's get back to this old chestnut. (The lack of comments over the last 5 months means that the question posed by the thread title can be answered, 'Yes, for the moment'.)

Over recent months there's been an explosion in digital-related content being made available (or at least promised) for nix. The most hyped examples are ABCTV's iView, talk of new ABC digital channels, and the new Channel 10 sports-only digital channel.

So why nothing about the ABC delivering SANFL matches nationally and worldwide when:
a) there's clearly a demand for them; and
b) the cost of distributing them is essentially zero?

When this whole thing started, it seemed obvious that the resolution would be 'okay, you say that you want to do other things with ABC2 (like show test pattern from 11:15pm)-- then deliver us the SANFL on another digital platform'.

A year later, and we're still waiting for the obvious to happen.

I would encourage all of those interested who've emailed in the past to harass the ABC once again to suggest they pull their finger out and resolve this issue.

I've contributed to the title myself - I guess it's almost like it's accepted that this will be the future for SANFL replays. That is, none. I wouldn't mind knowing the exact list of people who have lobbied for the return of the replays and that includes all MPs, and the tactic used by the ABC is to string out excuses until that heat is off against everyone.
