Ive seen plenty of him but every time I do he's fine when the side is up and running... nowhere to be seen when the going gets tough. Love to see his last half stats in comparison to his first half in games where his side is run over. In this case I am fully aware Murphy clamped down on him after the 1/2... and did a damn good job.

Can't believe it when I read CR@P like this. JC has an unbelievable 4/4 workrate. Last game we were pathetic against Centrals and yet he never stopped trying. This plus the fact he's carried a groin strain most of the the year, but STILL he put his hand up for the State Game.

I hate losing but I've got no problem with our direction. As long as they keep promoting the well performing juniors the future looks bright down Alberton way.

Good player JC but I don't think you can have a crack at Joelie for making that claim when you look at Clayton's posession stats by the Advertiser, 22 in the 1st half, 4 in the 2nd half. So arguably he did go missing in the 2nd half. Whether that was his design or the coaches (positioning) remains to be seen.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I think if you read that line there you will see why he had a crack at Joelie. By suggesting he is only ever there when the side is up and about is a little different from singling him out over one half of footy.

Pseudo wrote:On Clayton: I would give Clayton the 3 Magarey Votes for that game. He has slipped some way since his Magarey winning year but his importance to the Port side cannot be understated. Once or twice today he managed to fluff disposal (eg kick got smothered) yet immediately put in the second effort to tackle the bloke who got the ball, and in one case a third effort.

Very weird game. To my mind Glenelg was completely outclassed for the entire first half, not just the first term. The bays were not running, not chasing, often beaten to the ball. Port played with commendable intensity. Their pressure on the ball carriers was first rate; they niggled and harassed at every opportunity. Much of Glenelg's bad accuracy in the second term could be attributed to Port's defensive pressure.

Even the third term started too slowly for my liking - it took about 10 minutes for the Tigers to get into swing - but that latter period of the third term was champagne footy. The smooth running game was back and Glenelg danced circles around Port. Both teams are to be commended for the final term; Port kept on going right until the final siren and made Glenelg earn the points. Port played well above its station on the ladder, but ultimately Glenelg is the better team and it showed. To play a crap first half and still win against a dedicated opponent augurs well for the club this year.

Good assessment Pseudo. That last quarter was great. Whern we got back to within 10 I thought we might even nick it...

Miekeljohn/Clayton won the first half. Cranston/Mouse won the 3rd term. McConnell and Bode did flashy things in the final term when it mattered which ultimately was the difference...

I have seen Clayton atleast twice a year (sometimes 3 times) plus games on the TV. In my opinion it's all good for him when the side is flying. Once a tight tag goes on he does not work his way out of it. A few years back at the Bay when it started to pour with rain (not last season) he bought himself to the bench early in the last qtr when it seemed Glenelg were home... no-one on the bench could replace him... he was screaming at the bench "get me off... Im finished". At that stage Port trailed... 5 mins later they've kicked 2 quick ones and are back to within a couple... suddenely he's staring at the coaches box throwing his arms in the air in disgust asking to go back on.... Ive watched him close since that day and in my opinion he has a pea heart when the going gets tough.
PS- no physio/doc went to him. He threw his boots off. And then quickly whacked them back on....

joelie, you mustn't see the same games i've seen the bloke might be a twit (reported 3 times already this year) but is in the top 5 players in the competition imho & arguably the best & for a sMALl bloke puts his body in & takes marks that blokes his size norMALly don't so there is no way you can say he has a pea heart but perhaps you can say he has a pea brain as it 'explodes' way too often

Basically, if Jezz had discipline he'd probably have a Brownlow and North Melbourne could have another flag...

IMO a good win by a side not clicking. Port hit the body hard* and had a real crack.
Glenelg's class shone through when it mattered and that's all that counts.

Glad to have a win, and BTW it's a weird feeling when you beat Port, yet aren't quite
satisfied with it :?

Thanks for that. Surjan wasn't listed in the budget, but there was no number 18 so that could be right.
