Yep my interest levels have dropped until this shit is sorted out which has meant I have missed more games than ever before

Also Centrals copped home game which clashed with the magpies/power and multiple games in massive downpour

I feel the same way. Norwood are run away favourites to win another flag and i cant even get excited. This time last year i was full of beans. But the end imminent of the sanfl is taking its toll. Its hard to be excited about something when there is no future. The last time norwood played centrals this year they had approximately 2000 crowd. Correct me if im wrong but norwood and centrals have been drawing nearly 4000 in recent times. I said to the old man on that day that something was not right as this was not a normal crowd for these two teams. This was about the time things were heating up re the reserves debate.

How about you wait and seen what the proposal actually is. Maybe give it a year to see what the outcome is.Then pull the pin on the comp. Seriously, despite the fact that you say your "pasionate", I, along with most fence sitters{ who are waiting on the FACTS coming out}are finding it pretty ridiculous that you are willing to walk.....away.....from.....YOUR....CLUB.

How many kids do you know support Centrals league side and North reserves.

How may kids do you know support the Aussies test cricket side and the English ODI side

How many kids do you know even support the Power and the Eagles

Pesonally I don't know any adults who are planning to support the Crows AFL and Centrals SANFL if the move goes ahead

I have a young family and have just built a house so I would have no other choice but to look out for my career.

This is an upside that I can see. My Grandson would love to see the Roosters playing the Cows, and who knows , may become more pasionate about the Roosters. Does not give a rats arse about the Roosters at the moment despite me giving him my old Barrie Robran gurnsey to play backyard footy in. When grandpa says lets go down to Prospect to watch the Roosters it's yawn time .

ALL THIS BELOW ASSUMES THE CROWS RESERVES BECOMES A REALITY

About having Crows and SANFL club in same competition and affect on kids.

To be honest this doesn't worry me too much.


Short term it is the adults walking away that worries me most.

Having a massive change in the Eagles zone in 2nd on my list

This kids is more a long term issue.


About the kids.

Yes it is an issue but consider the following.

- We are already battling against the AFL sides for "hearts and souls". Having the "One Club" Port Adelaide running clinics on our country zones in recent years is a favourite of mine.

- Crows or Power don't get a zone from this, each SANFL club still keeps one (possibly a little larger)

- As long as
- clubs retain a good zone to work in
- SANFL Development Officers are still aligned to specific clubs
- clubs and DO's work hard to engage with auskickers, school footballers and club footballers in these zones
there is something to work with.

- In addition there needs to be a passing of the torch from current supporters who are parents to kids in being part of an SANFL club.

- The message we send to kids on the front of all our flyers is "YOUR local SANFL club"
having AFL seconds sides don't change that. We just have to make that still mean something.

Interesting to read your perspective.

The clubs and SANFL have to be very clear, honest and open with no doubt being that their club and the SANFL is the highest priority to satisfy the current supporters. Some will walk anyway, but hopefully not too many.

Your second concern is also a concern of mine. I think there are benefits to keeping Port as is. Just restrict their top up players with age so they do junior development and then have some players as top ups. Those genuinely looking for an SANFL league career would look elsewhere.

I didn't say I wasn't worried (Ok maybe I did) let me clarify .. it is a worry, just that it isn't my biggest short term worry

0 .. but how many kids actively support both the Centrals league and Central reserves. They just focus on the league side.

At SANFL level only diehard supporters take more than a passing glance at their reserves sides.

If your reserves side played a stand alone game when the league had the day off would you go?

Based on VFL and SANFL experience I cant see major supporter interest in the Crows reserves side once the novelty wears off.

Actually there are quite a few power jumpers at the Woodville Oval auskick clinic each week as there was on the parade last Saturday ... so there are some.

Take North Clare FC .. they had Power visit them on community camp a while back, I am sure that had an impact on some. Then 40 kids came down for District Day a few weeks back and were given royal treatment. Both positive experiences.

If the SANFL can somehow be both relevant and different to the AFL... ie present at schools and a great game day experience I think there is still hope.

Actually just on this one does anyone remember the ODI series a while back that had an Australian side and an Australian A side in it? Zimbabwe was another side.

Aussies love an underdog and when these two sides actually clashed most got behind Australia A much to the anger of the Australian first XI.

Never happened again.

Could it translate to SANFL where supporters with divided loyalties go for the underdog (SANFL) against the AFL goliaths.

The underdog thing could certainly occur. Also those with a family history of supporting an SANFL club will hopefully hand it down.

Also, with regards to actual numbers coming to the SANFL, I would say there are a lot of people who watch the Crows on TV and don't go to the game. The SANFL is appealing in part because it is close (if you live in the area), it is easy to get a park, it is cheaper, it is good for the kids who can run around on the oval and on the mounds. It won't be the same as the current SANFL Reserves set up where games are played at the same ground. It is also different to the VFL and WAFL models. There might be some who give the SANFL a go that might not have otherwise.

It all just has to be set up right and run well.
