Not much to comment on. Didnt see any of the match, the teams and although being informed we got "killed" I see it was 16 points. Even the Sunday Mail up here in Queensland made mention of the game and if Port only having a handful of league regulars.

If the club is looking at it for player development I think that is hard to measure right now, if it is for prize money then we ca

More spin!!! The fact is Booney, Morningside are the bottom team in their competition which in case you missed it is a QLD comp. They have had one win to date this season prior to the game Saturday!

So it obviously isn't just the top clubs in SA who don't want to play in this so called "competition" then?

I hadn't heard about this until checking the forum this morning. "Magpies" and "debacle" is a beautiful combination. You had me at hello.

Thanks Morningwood!
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Well what do you know, Topsy arbitrarily commenting on Port Adelaide again?

Port Adelaide was definitely the better side but their "simply turn up and we'll win" attitude bit them severely on the @rse!

I'm only fairly new on this board but the amount of people that spend more time flogging themselves about all things Port instead of talking about their own teams is quite amazing

I've heard the Port leadership group were quite peeved off with the result.
The club believed it had picked a side that should win and the fact it didn't disappointed them.
From what I've been told, a two to three hour training session was held after the match back at Alberton.

I have just watched the last qtr of this game on the afl website and as a Sturt supporter thoroughly enjoyed the vision!
However - some of those "efforts" by Port's defenders in the last qtr were truly terrible - it should be a long time before some of those guys get another game for the Maggies.

Roxtel Cup = Joke, now only Ronnie's boys are taking it seriously, so it's officially now 8 SANFL clubs that believe that after two years of boot licking to Vlad D, it's time to be united together and piss this blight on our historic comp. off as it's the thin edge of the AFL/ Reserves propaganda wedge!

WTF did I hear on North/Bays radio call, someone said refering to Roxtel games that sides are in it to make some $! Do some fact checking clown, the top club's people will tell you that there is no money after all your bills are paid and player welfare is factored in. You would think that was well old news

I wonder what the advocates of this competition are thinking now - particularly a couple of vocal league coaches.

Amongst the positives given for competing were; sponsors get exposure, team bonding during travel, players having the the opportunity to play at a high standard, playing instead of having a bye (with the view a bye is detrimental), potential winnings and the opportunity to represent the league. I can't think of any other reasons given.

Looking at South, they took it seriously and had the opportunity to travel to the MCG. They're currently third to bottom which may have no relevance to the Foxtel Cup.
West selected a weak side and was embarrased by a big defeat. They're currently second so maybe it's had no ill effect (unlike last year when it may have assisted their demise).
Port got to travel to Football Park twice for team bonding and back to Alberton for a rumoured further three hour "bonding" session. They selected a "weak" side, but still with at least 8 league players playing. They played an opposition that's struggling in supposedly a weaker competition. In their previous outing they lost luke Harder. Currently they're second to bottom with two wins.

When one looks at team selections and the results so far, personally I can't really see how any of the deemed positives have eventuated. Other than sponsors got some free exposure - though I wouldn't have a clue who sponsored Morningside or any other interstate team.
I hope Norwood want to compete next year.

That's my perception too. Most poster here are in denial - "2nd best league" is a bit doubtful now - SA lost away and just won at home.
