March 31 @ Gold Coast - 2 hours 40 mins
April 7 @ AAMI - 6 hours 10 mins
April 14 @ Eithiad - 6 hours 40 mins
April 21 - N/A
April 28 - N/A
May 5 @ SCG - 6 hours 40 mins
May 12 @ MCG - 3 hours 50 mins
May 19 @ Darwin - 6 hours 10 mins

Reasoning ?
- From a telecasting perspective there was a problem last year with the "GAP" between end of Foxtel Cup game and the start of the AFL match.
- Fox Sports in 2011 overcame that by delaying the Foxtel Cup broadcast by 30 - 60 mins so that dead time was not noticed by the viewer.
- In 2012 they have decided to broadcast all games LIVE but without an AFL match straight after.

Also these games look like they'll be the opening game in Fox Footy's Saturday broadcast (telecast prior to the 1:10pm game). However, it seems rather farcical to have such a massive gap between games. No one is going to stick around for 6+ hours between games.

The gap should resolve issues such as coaches box access though (which was a problem last year).

Should we get all the official Foxtel Cup on field discussion into a new thread?

This one started life out as a troll against the Foxtel Cup but is now 19 pages long with only the last few pages about the actual competition.

Perhaps when we get closer to the start?

I'm a Sturt fan who is very very envious of South fans who in 2012 have the chance to go and see their team play on the MCG - to all South fans - you must go to that game - how often does a SANFL team play on the MCG! I storngly believe in the concept of a national club competition - however it is being badly organised and mistreated by all involved parties -Foxtel, AFL and some very arrogant SANFL clubs. If the comp was a pre-season comp - it would be huge and would provide far more meaningful and entertaining footy than the AFL NAB Cup - but sadly it will never happen - unless I can take over as AFL Chief from Andy D.

Why do you think they are arrogant rd? Because they would rather win the SANFL flag and have their clubs best interest at heart?

If Centrals were to play a game at the MCG would you be going all out to see that game? I think you would. Did Williamstown and Claremont have their respective 2011 seasons ruined by playing in the Foxtel Cup? Players love an opportunity to compete against the best & fans love a chance to travel interstate to see their team play - sometimes clubs have to show some vision to rejuvenate themselves and not just stick to blandly ticking off all their KPI boxes each season.

Yeah, of course I would but I would trust that if I was attending one of these games, it would be because the Dogs would be participating in a competition that has appropriate prizemoney and is much better organized and makes the club feel that by taking part in this comp, it wont have too much of an affect on their SANFL Premiership chances.

And yes, I think a Pre-Season comp in this format would be brilliant rd, plus I think the other clubs would support it in this format.

What possible interest would Foxtel have in playing a pre-season cup from state league teams. The whole purpose of the Foxtel Cup is to fill in the space between AFL games so hopefully the viewers wont switch off.

And before anyone screams, "it's just about the money", OF COURSE IT IS!

Foxtel aren't a charity (or the ABC), they've paid Millions to broadcast football and in turn they want ratings to justify it. Just as the AwFuL were happy to take the $$$.

Of all the ways they could have picked to enhance their broadcast spectacle, they chose to give 2nd tier clubs from around the country some added exposure. And sadly some SANFL clubs are simply too pig-headed to look beyond their own trough.

Yes, how pig-headed of Eagles, Norwood and Central to want to put ALL their efforts and commitment into ONLY winning the SANFL Premiership.

In 100 years time, do you think people will give a rats toss bag that Williamstown won the 2010 Foxtel Cup???

I'm sure Port Magpies supporters will still proudly be able to rattle off all their SANFL Premierships though.

In 100 years time, I doubt people will care who won the 2010 SANFL premiership.

So rather than promote the fact that there is football outside Victoria, you want Foxtel to simply shove more VFL down the nations collective throat?

Because guaranteed, that's what they'll show.

If it's just about the money then they of all people should know that this comp doesn't provide enough to interest serious challengers for the SANFL flag.

I don't consider the Foxtel Cup to be about prizemoney, but rather about pride. A challenge has been issued to the State Leagues and their clubs to determine the best club outside the AFL which is something many of us have wanted to see for years. All other State leagues and clubs have accepted the challenge but not some of our local clubs? Why only us? Debatable if our clubs are arrogant, squibs, lack the vision to compete on the National stage, or genuinely believe that participaton will have a negative impact on their ability to win the SANFL premiership?
I just hope the format can be tweaked so all will want to participate in the future.
