Very big kid for a 19-20 year old. Not sure he will be good enough to play reserves or league footy though.

IT was mentioned on the 5AA sports show tonight that Centrals have signed a Midfielder from Clarence in Tassie. Stephen Rowe was introduced to the guy by Chris Gowans at the 36ers last night.

He is similar to Callinan apparently. Rowe coudn't remember his name

What is the link that Centrals have with Tasmania? Every year they seem to be the only club who signs players from their footy comp. Quite a few of them have turned out to be pretty good. Not sure why other clubs don't get busier down there. Andrew Beverage was one the eagles grabbed from that comp and he turned out to be a pretty good player. Can't think of too many duds

I think Centrals get recruits from Tassie as Callinan is from that area & he would have many contacts in the part of the world

The link between the doggies and Tassie goes back a long way. When Stephen Wright was recruited as coach he had coached in Tassie the year before and brough a few quality players with him. I think that one of them was Danny Hulm. Since then we have recruited many quality players Callinan being a notable one.

Was Ben Setchell (who played at North Adelaide a few years ago - looked like Johnny Platten with the hair) from Tassie originally?

I know he was playing back in Tassie the last few seasons...

Not knowing if there is any history with Central and Tasmanian recruits prior to the 90's, but from what I can tell you and as doggies4eva mentioned, their close link the Apple Isle began in 1996 with the appointment of senior coach and former Swan Stevie Wright...

Wright had been coaching Clarence is the Tassie league and was responsible for bringing over to SA the legendary Daniel Hulm (RIP) and Matthew (Jug-Head) Jones.

After that, there have been players like Ben Britton, Darren Stenhouse, Keiran McShane, Justin Hardy, Cameron Milne and some rover named Ian Callinan...

I'm sure there are a few that I forgot, but yes, the Dogs do have a nice link with Tasmania...

I'm pretty sure he was Victorian, he used to regullary visit our neighbour and I seem to recall he had family near Geelong somewhere.

Stenhouse was from Queensland played in the same league as Darren Bradshaw, broke his record amount of goals the year before coming to Central.

Just had a bit of a look for Ben Setchell, he played TAC cup for the Geelong Falcons and was in the TAC team of the year in 1997

That's right...

Did Stenhouse play in Tassie at all, I thought there was a connection somewhere with him?

Based on what was said on AA tonight by Rowey and your post above whufc, this Tasmanian midfielder the Dogs have recruited is:
