I'm not sure what people are more upset with in this whole thing:
That he got picked off and didn't anticipate a bump that most neutral observers, the crowd and umpires (by their lack of response) thought was a fair bump.
Or that he inadvertently had his jaw broken. I'm sure Callinan would've been happy to see him off the field permanently, as any team/player would. Doesn't mean he deliberately set out to do it.
Some of the people calling Wing Nut a sniper are showing poor form. He is a ball player who took the chance to provide a bump which any of us would have clapped if it had been by one of our own. I watched that bump several times on the big screen and thought "awesome bump", didn't see anything unfair in it. Unfortunate, yes. It was only after seeing it slowed down that I saw that it was inadvertently high.
Sometimes these things happen in our game.
And...if anyone wants to come after Wingy next season as a result of that incident, I'm sure he's BIG enough to handle the attention. Plenty of which he cops during the season anyway, as he is such an influential player.
And yes, soup jokes etc are also poor form too. I acknowledge the fact that WHUFC's comments are in fairly poor taste (but unusual by his normal standard of posting).
I wish Simon Phillips all the best in his recovery from a nasty injury.
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.
