No they didn't BC but if Norwood were to get up I'm sure just about ALL of their supporters would agree with me in saying that Paul Puopolo (#21) would have won it for them, his run and carry from half back was sensational.

No way KMac would have won it, I thought he had a pretty disappointing finals series by hiw own lofty standards.

Puopolo was probably the logical choice for Norwood's best player .. I think if say Norwood had won by 6 points there's a good chance Callinan would have become the first player to win the JO in a losing side.

Again dealing with could have and would have's

Must be just me then. I thought he was great Sunday. I will agree he was ordinary in the finals prior to that though.

Na, I'll take your word for it. I got there at 9am Sunday and by the time the game was over, I had sunstroke and was pissed as ten men. I was probably imagining things

I'm not sure what people are more upset with in this whole thing:

That he got picked off and didn't anticipate a bump that most neutral observers, the crowd and umpires (by their lack of response) thought was a fair bump.

Or that he inadvertently had his jaw broken. I'm sure Callinan would've been happy to see him off the field permanently, as any team/player would. Doesn't mean he deliberately set out to do it.

Some of the people calling Wing Nut a sniper are showing poor form. He is a ball player who took the chance to provide a bump which any of us would have clapped if it had been by one of our own. I watched that bump several times on the big screen and thought "awesome bump", didn't see anything unfair in it. Unfortunate, yes. It was only after seeing it slowed down that I saw that it was inadvertently high.
Sometimes these things happen in our game.
And...if anyone wants to come after Wingy next season as a result of that incident, I'm sure he's BIG enough to handle the attention. Plenty of which he cops during the season anyway, as he is such an influential player.

And yes, soup jokes etc are also poor form too. I acknowledge the fact that WHUFC's comments are in fairly poor taste (but unusual by his normal standard of posting).

I wish Simon Phillips all the best in his recovery from a nasty injury.
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

I think, to be fair when one Norwood supporter filled this checklist on the Norwood forum, many others disagreed. Mainly they disagreed with point 3.

One thing that is hard to gauge with someone who tries to play as a loose man looking to be the third man in contests is how many goals they allow. Merely because their opponent changes a lot throughout the day and they tend not to be shoulder to shoulder with them. Watching the replay it looked like 2 goals were his man. Whether that's right or not I wouldn't know. And whether some of the other shots we had were his man or not, again hard to tell.

Yep we have seen the worst of a few Norwood supporters (as we did with Sturt supporters last year) but to be fair most of the Norwood fans have been very gracious in defeat.

People complaining about the bump on Phillips have obviously forgotten how physical our great game can be and have been watching too much AFL.
Unfortunate his broken jaw may be, but I reckon the player in question would have no gripes about the bump at all.

I agree with the above 2 posters.

I would have chimed in about the history of finals between our 2 clubs and cite incidents when doggies players were king hit etc but resisted because most Norwood posters are decent sporting types like CP who often post positive or humorous posts and make this site interesting.

However the sniping against the player voted BOG in the GF has become tiring. The poster may be a 10 year old child or someone who knows nothing of the game but I feel a little slighted and feel that one of the best GFs I have seen has been brought down a little by immature comments.
We used to be good :-(

Hear, hear doggies 4eva. Once again I will declare my allegiance to my beloved Redlegs & how proud ( & gutted ) I was on Sunday but all the griping & whingeing from some of our so-called supporters about the hit on Flipper has just gone on for far too long & is taking the gloss off of what was an outstanding contest between two very even teams & is also reflecting very badly on Ian Callinan who from what I have seen can only be described as a very hard & fair player. The only sour grapes from me on this issue is the moronic comments from WHUFC in regard to texting & soup. Grow up you idiot. Let's all move on. As for the 'Legs best on the day I thought it was quite clearly Paul Puopolo. Unfortunately Kieran McGuiness was content to stay off the contest at crucial moments, a couple of times waiting for the loose ball, but got caught out with his opponent being able to mark & kick goals which really hurt us. Still think he is an outstanding player but he just got caught with his pants down.
Never hide your enthusiasm for winning out of fear of a disappointing defeat.
