I think it's going to be interesting.

Over time, we will change and I think over time we will accept it.

Many $$$ have been invested in this project.

Eventually all of us will accept whatever happens.

If not, our children will accept the future.

That is really where the future is.

Hi guys once again i have e mailed you will you comment on my concerns re this debacle you have made no mention of my other e mails over the last four weeks.

I am a Central supporter and like thousands of members of every club in the SANFL a multitude of questions have been asked by all SANFL members on footy forums and all we get are insipid responses suppositions hypotheticals . So forget all the PR and bullshit can anyone really tell me and your listeners how this proposal will have any real benefit for any club or the competition or the SANFL.

You media guys are all for this but what are the benefits ????? all it really benefits is the Crows having their players in one group big deal what is wrong with the staus quo which we all have been accustomed to ??????

Can you tell us what do you think ???????

I have it on good authority that over the weekend in the VFL they had dismal home and away crowds.

In fact Box Hill Hawks v Bendigo Gold could only attract around 150 footy fans.

So you guys tell me in Melbourne with a population of FOUR million people and admittance prices of $10 why no one is interested in going to see games.

How about letting your listeners know the above facts tell them the truth about the mess the other state leagues are in.

Is everyone prepared to take this risk with the possibility of the SANFL ending up like the VFL.

Thousands of astute SANFL followers who do their research and have seen the stats are not prepared to see this happen.

My personal view is if the AFC was serious their Option B should of been to have a side in the SANFL reserves for a trial period and IF there was a substantial increase in interest then at a later date they would then be admitted into the League competition.

Tell you listeners all the facts and not just jump on the bandwagon with a blinkered view.

They are not going to read an email that big. If you want to get your point across call in

Apache

Some good questions there.

But the moment you use swear words they will instantly bin it.

So try and re-write it in such a way (short and succinct) so they can read it out.

They could play their 'blockbuster game' (Showdown) @ the neutral venue of Adelaide Oval, but the other home games there.
Wouldn't that be more economically sound?

Are you serious? Who would want to go and watch an AFL game at that shithole?

You're welcome down there at any stage for a meal or beer. They are quite nice club rooms, you know what clubrooms are?

How many more conditions could they impose?

They can't wear their uniform, they can't be called the Crows, they can't have surgery without 2nd opinion, they can't get sponsors, they have to play away etc.

Perhaps they'll only be allowed to kick with their non-preferred foot?

If it doesn't fit in the hole stop trying to shove it in.

If they get in id like more conditions such as
- No player currently registered with an SANFL club or in the last 2 years to be used as a top up player
- No curtain raisers to Crow games EVER!! , the Crows will want curtain raisers
- Entrance to SANFL games featuring the Crows Reserves not free for Crows members, they must pay full tote

Port have changed their mind about a reserves team yet again, think this might make the fourth different model they've flailed uselessly around with.

Re: AFL Reserves Discussion...

Postby Aerie » Wed Aug 07, 2013 9:20 pm

These guiding principles have been agreed to by all clubs and the SANFL as non-negotiable elements and can be summarised as:

1. Integrity: Any change in competition structure must maintain or enhance the integrity of the SANFL competition;

2. Relevance: Any change in competition structure must maintain or enhance the relevance of the SANFL competition as the best State League in Australia;

3. SANFL & SANFL Club Viability: Any change to the competition structure must improve the long term strength and sustainability of the SANFL and SANFL Clubs; and

4. Game Development: Any change to the competition structure must enhance the development of the game at all levels across South Australia.

Coming back to these NON-NEGOTIABLE guiding principles. Will they still abide by these?

The first guiding principle is the sticking point; integrity.

The other three guiding principles can all be argued for and against.

David Burtenshaw avoided any integrity questions. Stephen Trigg touched on it on the radio saying playing everyone twice will be good for the integrity of the competition. Can anyone argue a solid case for the Integrity of the competition being maintained or enhanced?

Perhaps this link from the Australian Sports Commission can be used to define integrity in sport - http://ausport.gov.au/supporting/integr ... _integrity

"A sport that displays integrity can often be recognised as honest and genuine in its dealings, championing good sportsmanship, providing safe, fair and inclusive environments for all involved. It will be also expected to ‘play by the rules’ that are defined by its code.

A sport that generally displays integrity has a level of community confidence, trust and support behind them. The impact of this on their business cannot be underestimated."

The SANFL needs to define what the SANFL league competition stands for. If it is purely a development league to enhance the prospects of South Australia's AFL teams and provide other players with an opportunity to play against a team of mostly AFL listed players, then you could probably pass the integrity test.

If they still consider the SANFL as a genuine league competition then there is no way they can say the competition is fair, and it would be fair to say they will lose community confidence, trust and support. If the latter happens, there goes points 2, 3 and 4 as well.

Yep, integrity is the sticking point in this whole debate as far as I'm concerned, and unfortunately I think it will be sacrificed for $$.

I liked this definition: Integrity is a concept of consistency of actions, values, methods, measures, principles, expectations, and outcomes

Did anyone listen to Stuart Bown speak on 5AFL?
He mentioned Integrity, from a players perspective - conveyed Nick Dygan from Carlton going back to VFL Club.

Stuart was very much against the AFL Reserves in SANFL - he genuinely surprised both Rowe & McDermott with his viewpoint.
Rowe actually gave him a prize.

The main point he made was the rotation of AFL players for 'Club' players - even though a team plays well one week, the influx of Carlton players the following week upsets the team balance. He also suggested that the SANFL would remain the 2nd best competition (drawing players from interstate) despite the Crows having Reserves Team in SAAFL.

Was interesting to hear a player's point-of-view & the fact that he contradicted Rowe was most enjoyable - Rowe certainly expected the opposite.

It can't really be debated if the SANFL will be compromised 'Integrity-wise' because it clearly will be should AFC field a Reserves Team in the League competition. Surely, that's a given?

I've tried my best to avoid 5AAFL where possible. Gets me too worked up.

I assume Bown showed the initiative to ring in and it wasn't an interview? Good on him. As for Rowey, he's done the full 180 on this matter. Quite sickening listening to him.
