Some further analysis of crowd figures that I think is of interest to this debate:

Below are the total minor round attendances for both the SANFL (first column) and the AFL games at Footy Park (plus the one Port game at Adelaide Oval in 2011), (second column) with the last column indicating the percentage of total supporters that attended the SANFL. I didn't include finals as these fluctuate more depending on the teams involved.

The percentage of footy fans that have chosen to attend the SANFL over the AFL has risen significantly over the last 10 years, from approx 23% to 30%! I know that this is partly due to the issues with Footy Park, but regardless, why are our opinions discounted so quickly by the media and AFL fans when we are a very significant and growing component of the football landscape in SA?

I just plotted the figures, looks like there is a minor correlation between the two lines. Would be interested to see the home crowds of each SANFL club by year, overlaid with ladder position, and repeating for AFL clubs, to see how much the crowd figures are dependent on the success of the relative clubs. (Ie - in the SANFL I'm guessing years that Norwood has done well will be more likely to be higher SANFL crowd years).

Add into that the addition of night football into the SANFL and as noted the likes of Norwood and Central being succesful, double header finals matches (where neutrals would attend) and the free entry age for kids being raised.

It's really on now. Joe wants to call meeting, league directors only apparently. Think I heard on Channel 10 got more problems than Jesse James.
Think said if no, then what? My kid was mucking around so didn't entirely listen.
Then channel 9 said considering 1 to 2 years trial.

Gee Channel 10 has pumped it quite a bit.

I watched the channel nine news sports report they reported that there will be a clubs directors meeting tomporrow night to discuss the possibilty of Crows reserves side entering next year for a trial period of two years to see if it is going to be a detriment to the SANFL. Apparently this has all come about because of the events over the last week regarding West Adelaides financial situation which might have seen the club fold. West Adelaides financial predicament has made some of the clubs very skittish because some are in the same boat.

The plot thickens.

Just another attempt by the media to bluff and influence. Norwood have not changed their mind merely saying we should look at what is on offer. The Crows feed the media crap and they snap it up.
How the xxxx can they report this afternoon that WWT have said no then a few hours later they have changed their mind. How the hell can they have a meeting and change their mind in such a short period of time ?????????????? The xxxxing Crows are saying all this not WWT !
As Centurion said last Friday night. Only believe what your club is saying. Anything else is BS.
I believe this whole beat up is to angle towards a trial ..... in the reserves. The Crows and in particular Steven Trigg have to manufacture a way out of the shit Trigg created by saying they would go to the SAAFL. Clearly this has been disregarded as total BS.

To Been Real - I am just one person and i have nothing to do with the Norwood board. Obviously my 'petty' views do not represent the view of my club. However if my pettiness bothers you I suggest you have a word to your fellow Port faithful who feel the need to trash the SANFL at every opportunity. Port should apologise to the SANFL and SA footy fans for everything you have put us through and thank yourselves lucky you are still allowed in the SANFL.

Yes of course as we really enjoy playing and beating your one club just like last Friday night...

So some further comments on the SAFC members night. Probably 50 or so members turned up. The meeting made me feel relatively young . Anyway...

- The CEO Evan Arnold didn't give much away as to his/the club's opinion on the matter. Peter Alexander spoke well with some passion.
- The club was originally a "No" out of principle before the details had been presented, but naturally were obliged to consider the proposal.
- The club's main concerns were with the original top-up player arrangement, which has since been scrapped, the drop off in crowds for games against the AFL clubs, (they are sceptical about the suggested growth in crowds/interest) and the SANFL losing that "point of difference" with the other state leagues.
- Basically every member who spoke (bar 1) was against the proposal, for the reasons that have been widely mentioned on forums etc.
- Each club will receive a 40K payment, with another figure of about 10K for promotion etc
- When asked about the potential benefits for the club, Evan didn't present them with much conviction, which perhaps suggests he doubts the legitimacy of them like most of us do. Apart from the $$ (which in my opinion is underwhelming given the likely fall in attendances/members), the other positive mentioned was the potential to work with the AFL clubs to promote footy in the southern area. I can't see they this couldn't be arranged regardless..
- Evan felt as though the idea of the AFL teams playing in the SANFL reserves deserved greater attention than what it received
- Mentioned that the proposed TV deal with C7 is not hinging on the AFC's involvement in the league
- Port status quo for 2014, but for 2015...? The general feeling is the PAMFC wont be as we currently know it.
- The board was meeting tonight to make a decision on the proposal as it stands currently. Yet to decide how this decision will be communicated.
- I'm fairly confident/hopeful that the club will vote No.
