Have we breached two times before? (actually didnt know that)

Most clubs do most of their recruiting after all AFL drafts are completed so it certainly is a penalty

Rubbish - a few clubs might annnounce signings after but the majority of players are signed and announced prior to the last draft. For example this year - have a look at the IN's for the Eagles, North and Glenelg for starters and tell me that those 3 clubs are going to recruit the same or more post draft?

The penalties are very soft and West are very lucky considering this is not the first big offence they have been caught for and I don;t buy their bullshit excuse of how they mis-managed injury payments! A bit like the offical reason Centrals gave for Hayes departure - looks good on paper and eases guilt. It's lucky the SANFL Investgators didn't probe the "Tippett" signing more? If the rumours are true and that got out, I am not sure what excuse West would have conjuered up for that??? Buggered if I know how they can sign him for 2013 beyond also without continuing assistance?

Most players from interstate are recruited after the drafts are finished as they are still hoping that they will still be picked up. No point signing contracts and being annouced incase they are drafted. Most of the in's for the teams you mentioned are players going from one SANFL club to another so the draft is not a factor.

Joel Tippet was already signed for 2013 as he is in the second year of a two year contract.

I wonder how much of the $100 000 in fines will actually be paid by 2 of the poorest clubs in the SANFL

Yep that's what makes me think the punishment is very light!

Would have rather seen a smaller fine but stricter/longer recruiting fines.

Says alot about the people running this club, going bankrupt and can't even sneak a flag despite repeatedly cheating.

Should West and Port be allowed to recruit next year and pay transfer fees if they haven't paid the $50000 fine!

Typical, that's an outrageous question to pose.

But no they/we shouldn't

Why is it outrageous, a Port in a position they can pay the $50 000

Personally I think a fine was a terrible punishment for these two sides if the SANFL are serious about these two clubs getting financially stable.

I should have added the ;)

Financially the Fine will be a major impost but I'm thankful there was no recruiting sanctions attached given a first Offence.

That said, there should be an incentive for the Fine to be paid within an agreed timeframe.

The incentive is to learn how to manage your accounts properly and not get a fine ... #-o

Except they won't exsist if they have to pay the fine and the SANFL can't afford to lose 2 clubs plus Sturt are on the brink

If I remember correctly re Norwood's ban - the league messed up re the start and end of the ban which didn't really hurt Norwood signing recruits in the end?

I didn't think we had any recruits in that off-season, but my memory is rooted .. I'll find out and come back

Found an old topic on here that said we picked up Andy Lee and Dean Terlich around that time. If that's correct, Im not really sure how we managed to do it?

I don't think that was the case, the years make it a bit confusing but we were found guilty for the year 2008 but couldn't recruit for season 2010. That was the off season prior to Bass starting. Terlich and Lee came in for the 2009 season.

For the 2010 off season we were only able to sign on guys like Nick Lower (delisted by the Power) and Bowny who returned. Our ban was until the end of February (which ruled us out for being active over summer) at which time we were still able to sign some discards from other SANFL clubs like Angus Clarke.

Yep, think you're right mate, so pretty sure we didn't recruit anyone for 2010 until after the expiration of the ban, and we subsequently recruited Gus Clarke and Jak Kennedy-Hunt.

Actually, hurt us heaps more than Westies .. We couldn't sign any new players until after the ban (by which time we were only ever going to get fringe or development players, if that) .. Certainly wasn't a Mangen or Tuck, or a Mini-Draft pick that would have netted one of:

4. North - Andrew Moore
5. Eagles - Luke Thompson
6. Glenelg - Sam Shaw
7. Sturt- Jasper McMillan-Pittard
8. Central - Jack Gunston
9. Panthers - Daniel Bass
10. Port Magpies - John Butcher

Still we managed to rise from 6th to losing a Granny by 6 points .. Given they're coming off a GF appearance, Westies should be feeling pretty confident about the coming season still.

A few teams to rise up this year, I doubt one of them will be West.

Why would Westies fall away? Have lost three quality players, but so have most clubs. I am confident of finishing higher than Glenelg but who wouldn't be :-D

Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
