Watched the replay last night, for some reason found myself being nervous again in the last 5 minutes.

Thought the umpiring was of high standard and well controlled.

One instance where i thought this was evident was when Grocke took a mark in the 3rd quarter and got collected a little late by a centrals player.

1. Could have given a 25m penalty but didn't - correct decision.
2. Numerous shoulder punches from players - no turnover of free kick - Well umpired.
3. Rimmington gets put on his arse , beautiful stage dive - No 25m penalty - Well umpired.
4. Rimmington gets off his arse and gives one back - No turnover - Well umpired.

Well umpired all round.

Not well umpired - I'm sure Spurr was FAD'd after his errant shot on goal!!!
Taken high? Pushed in the back? Tripped? Shot by an Eagles sniper? Or something!!!!!!!

And Jimmy Toumpas deliberately through the ball in the air upon hearing the siren prior to the umpire actually signalling the end of the game.

Actually there was a clear high tackle on one of the Gowans in the last 1/4 only 20m out from goal, we could clearly see it on the outer side but the ump was on the grandstand side fo the contest and couldnt see it.

Blame it on the umpires.... :D . Bottom line is that the dogs choked.....finally! Its a pity they played 25 mins of good footy and almost won the game. Well deserved Eags!!

I was going to say, the way the Eagles played for the majority of the day was more a reflection on the victors, rather than the Dogs choking.

The Eagles 'chocked' the Dogs to not allow them to play their style of footy until the last 15 minutes of that final term.

Had the Dogs got up in the end, that would be more reflective of a choke, on the Eagles part of course.

Central played bad but the Eagles not only played really well, they didn't allow the Dogs to get thier game going either.

The best team on the day won, no-one choked, but the Eagles came close ;)

Agreed for most of the first three quarters Centrals weren't allowed to play their own game due to the way the Eagles played.
Not sure whether the Eagles choked - can't recall too many bad kicks, easy dropped marks, panicky frees, etc.
I think Centrals come back is testament to their belief and slightly better fitness against an Eagles side that was just about shagged for the last ten minutes.

What an amazing game! I was watching again on ABC I View last night, and yes, I was very nervous all over again watching the last quarter.

The style of footy was great by both clubs, Eagles were clearly focussed in the first quarter, going in head first to packs. Kicking vital goals outside 50m by Lewis and Tiller in the second quarter, really helped stabilse the Eags, and keep us ahead of the Dogs.

I agree with other posters, it seems to be a sweeter flag than 2006, because we were the underdogs, and it was a much more exciting game!

Well done to Colin and everyone at the club (Phil H), for promoting the game, and getting so many people (especially young people) along to support the boys. A great team effort

I must say, watching the last quarter again, there seemed to be no real drop in intensity from us - it was Centrals lift they have (plus I reckon the break would have helped here) that enabled the comeback. The only time we really coughed up anything due to a lack of commitment/negative play was the goal on 3QT.

I also think that whether or not people thought the crowd was poor, it is still better than any other leagues attendances for a Grand Final by a considerable margin. The WAFL Grand Final had just 14,000* I believe. The other main thing is the atmosphere in the last term particularly was fantastic. When people say that an SANFL match has a better atmosphere than an AFL match at Footy Park, I know exactly why they say it.

Actually, Klug reminds me, I should have said "Well done on your tireless work" to Phil H on Tuesday; he and cd have a big task to undertake due to our lower support base, and are doing the task admirably.

A couple of things about the umpiring - I thought it was pretty good; apart from a few soft frees to Central in the second half. One of those was when I think one of the Gowans had his head over the ball and went into Goldsworthy; who had no real alternative apart from standing back and letting him run away with it. Instead he tried to tackle, and was penalised for it. Also, Lewis was over the line in the last quarter when he kicked the ball and was called out on the full. But all little trivial things, which made no impact on the scoreline either if Spurr had goaled or not.
