Another reason why we shouldn't have a final five, rewarding mediocrity.

Big game actually because even though on performances to date they might deserve to be buried, due to the mediocre record of whoever's in 5th spot, the Eags really do have a last chance. And this is it. There's inevitably some let-down for any team after winning a top-of-the-table clash, and if they lift their heads up the Eags still have most of a squad that won a flag less than 12 months go. So this match could surprise.

Anyone who thinks the axe won't be coming out for some of the weak willed players hanging around taking up oxygen in and around the Eagles league team, is way of the mark! Moving on the old/weak is natural anyway and recruits that make a difference must/will be of the highest priority unless we have completely misjudged Godden! He's not going to accept this season passively we're certain of that, so next season will be the test of what the Eagles are made of after failing to be strong enough to accept the massive challenge of trying for back to back.

Surely should have happened a long time ago. If there was anyone good enough to come in they would have already. I, like most here, thought the Eagles were a top 3 side again this year. Perhaps we all just overestimated their ability? Makes the effort last year impressive and makes me think (still) it was a big opportunity missed by the dogs.

Didn't think we were premiership favourites like some. Thought we'd finish fourth due to losing a few handy players but our competitiveness, honesty and general talent would see us get the required number of wins, like it had over a few years when we were just off the pace eg 02, 09. However, the first two of these has been lacking at times IMO and this is what has been disappointing - I don't believe there has been an overall increase in the standard of the competition leaving us behind.

We certainly had the footy gods smiling on us last year, given some of Norwood's and Centrals injuries, but I reckon there was a couple years where is was the other way around - not excuses, just this time we had the luck.
I can see why you'd say it was a missed opportunity GL, perhaps swings and roundabouts for 2009 when I reckon you pinched one.

Eagles back to bottom with only 4 wins to round 16 but are still 1 game (plus percentage) out of the 5 ... have played one more game than the other contenders.

I'm not sure, but I think out of all the bottom 5 sides they still have more games against other bottom 5 sides. It could be enough to save them from the spoon.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Maybe slighlty theri
The bottom four sides all play two of the top three sides once more. The Eagles have an extra bye, whilst the other three teams out of the five play the Bays again, so seems like each team has about the same amount of games against each other.
South have probably got the hardest run home, playing each of the four teams up above and a bye in there too.
