The West Perth Falcons will kick off our inarguable Foxtel Cup against Canberra powerhouse –the Ainslie Football Club on Saturday April 21st at either the Manuka ground in Canberra or the Blacktown oval in Sydney.

Ainslie won the ACT AFL premiership in 2010 by defeating the Sydney Swans Reserves team 19.11 to 10.13. Ainslie have long proud and successful history dating back to 1927. With 23 premiership cups in the trophy cabinet they are sure to be a challenge for the WAFL’s oldest and proudest football club in West Perth.

West Perth president Brett Raponi said “this is a fantastic opportunity for our coaches and players to show case themselves on a national stage. The Foxtel Cup will provide unprecedented national exposure for the West Perth Football Club and we look forward to representing the Falcon faithful and in fact the state of WA to the best of our ability.”

For all Falcon fans, you won’t have to miss a minute of the action with game being televised live on the new Fox Footy channel from 9am wst.

Interestingly there is no AFL game on in NSW or Canberra on this day so it wont be as a curtain raiser.

NB - In the winter 9am WST is 11am East Coast where game is played or 10.30am South Australia

Haha, I wonder if the WAFL clubs are being forced to play in this comp?

aww cmon let him gloat just a bit. hey after all he probably still thinks his side is a real club, not a fake cordial conglomerate of patheticness

Conglomerate ??

Aren't the current NAFC a merger of sorts between an earlier North Adelaide Football Clubs and the Medindie Dingoes... they kept the North Adelaide Name but took the Medindie jumper and colours?

"As far back as 1874, the North Adelaide area had a football club, In that year, a club was formed from a number of people who had moved from Victoria to live in South Australia. They called their club the Victoria Football Club and they played their games at the bottom of Montefiore Hill, behind the Adelaide Oval.

In 1883, the Victoria Football Club changed its name to North Adelaide Football Club, but that didn’t last long. The club wore the colours of orange and black.

In addition, the Medindie football team had worn the now famous North Adelaide red and white colours from the late 1880's."

So everytime Rooster fans you want to have a go at the Eagles for being a merged club, some 21 years, 49 finals and 3 premierships after the merger ... remember .... you started it some 120 years earlier. :D :D

North Adelaide footbll Club had nothing to do with the previous North Adelaide Football club. It is true that they evolved from the Medindie Football club but there was no relationshp between the previous North Adelaide and the one that commenced in 1893. North members luckily overthrew the proposal to merge with Sturt in 1995. That is the only time that North have ever looked at merging.

Where does it say North merged ? A long bow to draw just because they had the same colours. Is it any wonder you still get a ribbing about merging.

I said Medindie and North was a merger of sorts. Five years after Medindie and North Adelaide were playing as two seperate clubs we have a North Adelaide Football Club playing in Medindies uniform colours.

But if you want specific proof of a merger, yes a North Adelaide Football Club was involved in a merger some years earlier just not the North Adelaide Football Club of today.

In 1888 (the same year Medindie entered the competition) the Hotham Club changed their name to North Adelaide,

So in 1888 there was a Medindie and North Adelaide playing in the comp

In 1889 that North Adelaide FC merged with the Adelaide Football Club (who had earlier merged with Kensington in 1881)
the new club was called the Adelaide Football Club.

In 1893 the Adelaide Football Club folds and conincidently the Medindie Football Club at the same time adopts the old North Adelaide name.

If you read the full story there is no mention of North Adelaide and Medindie merging not even a merger öf sorts. As you correctly state the previous North Adelaide and Adelaide merged in 1889 and then folded in 1893.

Medindie became the North Adelaide we still have today

The previous North Adelaide folded prior to the name change, they also have absolutely nothing to do with Medindie or the current North Adelaide!

It appears that you are clutching at straws to make yourself feel better about own Merger

Seriously can we give the merger / hybrids stuff a rest? The Eagles have more than proved themselves and it was more than 20 years ago that two clubs decided in a very changing climate to merge to survive. Glad it wasn't one of my original clubs that had to do it but as previously mentioned, North "entertained" a dumb attempt at merging with Sturt. There was no way I would have followed that "bastard" if the two clubs had merged!

Agreed. They would have been my most disliked team in the comp and I would have cheered for the other seven teams against them with a passion (similarly to the way I do in the A League against Adelaide United).

You could assume v Williamstown, Port Melbourne or Werribee (the three VFL teams to qualify)
unless its a team also from interstate.

Yes G, I was one of the thousands of players, coaches, officials in the modern football era that transited through a different club to the one they grew up supporting.

We can't allways work for the football club we support ... at least initially. :D Sometimes you just have to do your traineeship elsewhere.

Always thankfull that I learnt the ropes at South, certainly learnt a lot ... has helped me greatly in my current role
