BUT 98% of footy players currently playing know they won't make it to the giddy heights of AFL.

don't disagree but kids have a dream and want a career in footy. right now if they want that they have to have the AFl dream.

Now if i was in charge of the AFL I'd be ensuring the state league competitions have a salary cap as a minimum of 10% of the AFL salary cap. That way the kids who get sold teh dream but don't make it and or get spat out after one, two, five years can come back and still earn some reasonable coin palying at a high level.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

100% agree.

Thats why I would like to see the AFL set up its own junior/reserves comp.

And you think that wouldn't impact more on the SANFL that a Port and Crows reserves team?

The good SANFL players are obviously going to want to play at the highest level they can, so will go to the AFL reserves comp. The good juniors will go to the AFL junior comp. That would leave the SANFL being less than what the amateur league comp is now.

It's ok to be pro SANFL/anti AFL, but you still need to look at things logically.

Most of us are very Logical our hearts and soul lie with the SANFL and will stay true till the day we die so until then tell the AFL to stick its nose out of our comp if you want an AFL reserves comp let them organise it and pay for it as they have millions of dollars to waste.
SANFL 2000 - 2011 Central District 12 consecutive Grand Final appearances and 9 Premierships.

So out of an AFL reserves comp and Port and Crows teams in the SANFL, which one do you think would have LEAST impact on the SANFL as a comp?

Afl reserves easily.

Sanfl clubs won't have to compete for sponsorship/membership/players with an AFL club .

Players have the option to play afl reserves now via Bendigo,Box Hill, Geelong etc.....in the vfl.
Those who have tried usually come back to the sanfl before the end of their first preseason.

So some like, say, Joel Tippett.

Do you think he would play SANFL or in the AFL reserves comp? By him and others like him not playing SANFL, how does that make our comp better, protect it?

Sanfl he could play for an afl reserves team now as pointed out previously. But he chose west knowing full well it had no direct link to an afl club . Why ???

Because he's a defender and West play 21 defenders each week. He figured he'd definitely get a game with them.

Why??? Because the SANFL is perhaps seen as a better (?) standard of football, leading to more opportunities at AFL level.

If this was not the case and the Joel Tippetts of the world did not come here, where would the SANFL be?

Next question - How much does an SANFL club get when a player gets drafted from them? $$$ ?

Its quite simple my friends how were the Giants and and the Suns formed by the AFL so who should organise this yes the AFL anyhow one day if a RESERVES comp ever comes to fruition then i think the existing AFL clubs to have team in a AFL RESERVES competition must be under the same guidelines and rules as the League team etc etc so if Joel Tippet wants to play AFL RESERVES he puts his name in the hat for the AFL RESERVES draft quite simple what it means is that each club must recruit maybe 20 t0 30 additional players for a RESERVES team the initial COST/OUTLAY must be funded by the AFL until said competition is fully established this will be good for the AFL purists who then can watch their RESERVES and LEAGUE TEAM to their hearts content this will also mean AFL clubs will be able to administer watch and monitor all their players at the one club rather than have them shunted out to various clubs in the SANFL but the million dollar ?? is the AFL really serious about establishing an AFL RESERVES competition probably not anyway personally i will stick to my local SANFL football and NO AFL RESERVES teams to play in our much loved local comp do ya all get it.

No, because that means an extra 360 footballers out of the state league systems, and therefore amatuer and country leagues.
Say one-third, 120, come from the SANFL, and we need 189 to fill 9 SANFL teams, then the best players at each club will be the 15-21 from current lists, and that is before injury.
