Making them commit for 15 years means nothing. The model itself states that the SANFL will review this on a yearly basis, thereby providing a convenient escape clause for the AFL clubs. As our good friend beenreal likes to point out, "times change".

Agree, I thought them having to commit might make them baulk but the review clause means nothing, once they are in the comp is gone, imagine the SANFL trying to kick them out after letting them in

End of the day we only need 3 clubs to vote against.

Sweet!!!!! Then we all need relax .

Unless the license fee is $500k to each sanfl club, then this is a disgrace and an insult to logical thinking. I missed the benefit to sanfl clubs. A drop in salary cap, would really help covering the loss of Afl listed players, not. Making sure they play finals if fit, who gives a fat rats, if they're playing for the afl teams.
Unless the tactic of the commission is to "show" support for the insulting proposal, knowing the sanfl directors will all knock it back, then the sanfl commission should be removed as they are not representing the best interests of the sanfl.

Just thinking crazy/aloud...

Couldn't the No AFL in the SANFL faction of members at each club, get the numbers required at each club, to call for an EGM at each club with the AFL Reserves proposal on the table and a motion directing the board (if successful) to vote No?

If that is possible (really going for crazy here) wouldn't that be the best option, putting the boards on notice there are the numbers to roll them if they go against the members wishes?

Like I said, just a crazy notion.

Just say the SANFL clubs unanimously vote no. Can they give a vote of no confidence to the sa football commission and have them replaced with people who actually care about the SANFL?

How come this release doesn't mention the financial incentives? All the other points are negative reasons for letting them in. The only potential positive is financial, but this isn't detailed.

The members of the SA Football Commission should be "named and shamed" for endorsing such a ridiculous proposal and should be voted out at the next available opportunity. If they believe what is written they are surely not the right people to be in charge of our competition.

John Olsen
David Shipway
Leigh Whicker
Philip Gallagher
Dion McCaffrie
Richard Allen
Tom Zorich
Simon Rodger
Andrew Killey
Philip Duval

The SANFL Commission should equally be ashamed for putting their name to this so called proposal.

This stinks of an AFL back room gun-to-the-head threat ... what are the REAL consequences for the SANFL which have not been made public?

Start by replacing John Olsen with Dean Brown, Leigh Whicker with Max Basheer.

Garry McIntosh is a must get ... he'd tell the AFL clubs to faark off.

I actually LOL'd at the "playing to the line" and "elective surgery" parts.

They can't be ****ing serious can they?

Sad thing is, my club will probably fall for it hook, line and sinker, and then spend the next 10 years whinging about how they have been shafted.

If this goes through, I'm out.

Pseudo wrote:The model in detail says nothing about how the Port SANFL operations will be organised. Will there be a junior grade structure or will the PAM AFL reserves team be stand alone?

"AFL clubs to commit to not recruiting support staff directly from SANFL clubs." - simply unenforceable.

"18 minor round matches over 21 weeks" - conveniently shortened to fit in with AFL scheduling.

"Reduced by $20,000 per SANFL club as acknowledgement of reduction in minor round matches" - So the dinkum SANFL players should get a pay cut to accommodate AFL teams? Good luck getting the players to agree to that.

"AFL clubs to commit to the SANFL competition for 15 years, reviewed by the SANFL on a yearly basis" TRANSLATION: AFL clubs will review their commitment on a yearly basis.

"AFC will not have a home venue; will play as away team throughout the minor round. " And what about the Port reserves team? They still get home matches? So much for equality between the AFL teams.

And the most laughable claim of all is this final piece of scaremongering:

“The alternative to this course of action exposes the SANFL to reduced corporate interest and reduced media coverage while also threatening the relevance of the competition as the best outside of the AFL.”

Bulldust, Olsen. Paying dinkum SANFL players less while expecting them to play in the shadows of their AFL counterparts will do damage to the relevance of the competition - in the eyes of the SANFL supporters and players.

Or, as smacker more succinctly put it: **** off.
