Ah, holden, it was just meant to be a bit of fun. You clearly don't listen to the show because me and Tetley have a lot of respect for the Eagles, in fact Mr Short Black actually tipped your mob to win today.

I have no problems with the flags the Eagles earnt defeating Central, I have a lot of respect for the WWTFC. That picture posted was light hearted. I'm afraid there will be no signed copy of that book as well.

Will finish 5th

Beat the Bays in the elimination.
Beat West the Week after.
Triump over the legs in the prelim
Run over the Dogs in the GF

That what the tea leaves read this morning.

Well its not 100% accurate , I do admit.
Depends on the quality of the leaf.
Perhaps substitute the bays for north, it was early in the morning and I was in a rush.

Most of the Eagles players need to be on whatever it is that makes you roll Warrior! This squad of players has more holes in it then Swiss cheese, but South and Port aren't too flash either so there is reason to expect some wins along the way. We can only hope that privately the footy dept. have seen enough and are of the opinion, like most members/ supporters, that sizeable list changes are needed.
If Godden wants to stick to this gamestyle (why not as it does work!) then some of the cattle need to be sold off, let go or told their on the last chance Tram. If no one is going to say it, then let me be the one ..... Powell, Cicca and Macca are a season too far now and are in effect part of why we are 'Easybeats' for any fair dinkum team at the moment. These three great clubmen are weak links that don't get enough of the ball, aren't inspiring team mates like they used to and make silly skill errors that opposition players wait for and punish accordingly.
The recruiting/ player list issues are now finally out enough, given it's June, to be assessed for what they are .......... a horrible mess of guesswork, miss placed judgement calls regarding AFL players, over looking of major player flaws and the Hangover from Hell re. Mentally soft
Ironically, when it's this obvious to the whole world it makes fixing it alot easier because the first (maybe hardest) step to get by is denial, and there is no denying lots of other issues when you watch the Eagles this year.

The last two weeks haven't been shocking, but not being able to get over the line in either shows we're just not good enough.
Stating the obvious, but North's last two wins have done us in I reckon, and just about sealed the five.

Spot on - two weeks ago I was hoping that if we could beat West and Glenelg then we would still actually be a chance for the top 3 - we would have been only one game and percentage behind 3rd spot with West and Glenelg playing both Norwood and Central in the weeks following. These losses have shown we're not good enough, and combined with North's recent wins, make it nigh on impossible to make finals now.

I'm ready to accept the season is gone if we lose to North this week. I'm an optimist but a loss this week will make it 5 wins out of the top 5 with 10 games to play. Best case scenario is having to win "only" 7 of those games (ie. one of the current top 5 only win 2 more games), and given 3 of our last 10 games are against Norwood (2) and Central (1), winning the other 7 games is all we could possibly hope for.

In summary, it's officially over with a loss this week, but a win will keep the life support plugged in for another week.

Unfortunately I feel the MacKenzie experiment, i.e. flying him back from Melbourne for Friday training and Saturdays match has been a HUGE disappointment. Whilst I admit it must be really tough for Macca mentally and physically, he really looks slow and disinterested on match day. His intensity is as low as I have seen it since he has been at this club and his hunger and run from defence is non-existent. Admittedly he is not alone, but as a senior player who doesnt have to train during the week and still gets a game of league footy, is not right in this day and age IMO. Its only a little thing but its having an influence on the group I feel.

I heard a whisper that Luke Jarrad could miss around 6 weeks with that knee injury from Monday.

I think the Eagles this year so show even more the enormity of what the Dogs have achieved and how hard playing in back to back GF's can be nevermind over a decade!

Totally agree hammer ... what the Bulldogs have done since 2000 only grows in statue in light of failed attempts by other clubs to sustain sucess.

It's a great feat to win the flag.

But to maintain that level of success (ie 12 straight grand finals) is staggering as all other clubs have found out.

besides the Eagles slide this year.
Sturt won 02, lost first final in 03
Eagles won 06, lost prelim in 07

Of all the clubs to lose to Central in a GF the past 12 years only the Eagles managed to return the next year.

Sturt are the only other ones to return but with a big gap. 2002 to 2009.

Did the SANFL change the rules? I thought it was only "officially" over when it was mathematically impossible and with no hope of a club losing premiership points retrospectively.

To Michael Godden,
Having just read your quotes in the Sunday Mail I'm not sure why you need to be so defensive when quizzed on our teams "speed" and it being just perception! This 'theme' was heavily pushed in Fuller's last few years and most fans and observers did'nt buy it then. We have had some excellent results with your coaching DESPITE having and recruiting players that struggle and get caught short 'defensively' on a regular basis. Your right about 'IF' we hit our targets etc. but that fine line of skill level is'nt our forte, never has been, but I'm sure grunt, committed and focused has been. This arguement can be as complex as you like, but I think Sumner being clearly our Best yesterday proves alot that the threat he provided everytime he had the ball was as good as we looked all day. If your going to be like Fuller and deny the obvious, then try and justify recruits that are'nt giving us any point of difference to what we already have, well, we are in for a truck load more pain when our senior players go! No Smith off half back either! Switched on teams just play the Eagles midfield easily once the ball is away from Parry; when the team pressure/ intensity drops off we get over-run like Poland in 1939! Face reality, embrace the challenge and plan for all scenario's that may happen including staying stuck near the bottom. The club seem to be looking only on the bright side and don't want to accept that we have massive issues with our playing list, just that we can scrap a fifth spot despite how poor we have really been most of the year.
Yours faithfully,
H78 :?
