Been to Adelaide Oval the last two weekends in the company of my Missus who is a South supporter. Had a good time on each occasion listening to her incessant "Panthers!! Woo-oo!!" through the megaphone. Went quiet between games then to my surprise "No AFL in the SANFL!! AFL scum out" at the start of the Norwood/Port game.
Warmed the cockles of my heart!

Spent the week end in Melbourne.
Went to North v Essendon - great game, Brown was excellent.

Yesterday, went out to North Port Oval to watch Williamstown v Werribee.
Low & behold, Brown (& his girlfriend) came & sat directly behind us in the Stand - he was wearing his 50 yr Werribee T-Shirt, as they are the 'feeder' team for North Melbourne. BTW, his left, little finger was in a splint (if you are having a punt, might be worth knowing 8) )

Was interested to find out about the 'rules' in the VFL regarding players available for VFL Finals.
Have to have played minimum 6 games.
Generally, the AFL Teams are not that forthcoming with releasing players.
Appears similar to what we had over here, up until 2014, with AFL Clubs being difficult in releasing players, even when they all play for the one Club.
Box Hill might be an exception?

What I was most surprised at, was the size of the crowd - very small, would suggest 1500 max. despite no AFL games in Melbourne on Sunday.
Stand was virtually empty, the most populated area was behind the city end goals with Reserves players.
Nice venue, though - would be great to play Cricket on, city backdrop.

Must say, despite Andy Collins coaching Williamstown (who kicked 9 last quarter goals to storm home & win 'going away') the standard was excellent & I really enjoyed the 'open' style footy. Seemed more open than our competition - a bit more old fashioned style footy.
Was also nice to see the old West Torrens Guernsey up close again too :D

Meanwhile in WA East Perth waltz straight into the GF.
The disdain that state leagues are being treated with by the AFL and it's franchises is disgraceful.

Hope that 'Willie' fight it tooth and nail.

"AFL Victoria" says it all really.

It is a great oval LPH, great club rooms they've built. However, it'd be pretty bleak with a howling south westerly. I love going down to Willy when I'm in Melbourne, I'd barrack for them if I lived there now that they're not affiliated with AFL whores.

Caught about 20 minutes of AA tonight and they interviewed Tommy Jonas. Conversation went something like:

Rowe: "Big weekend for you, you smashed Richmond, Norwood beat Port and ROCS beat (someone can't remember who)"

TJ: "yeah although would have been better if the Maggie's had got up"

(Then went on to talk about how awesome it was to wear the prison bar guernsey)

Understand he is a Port man now, but nearly threw up listening to it.

Rowe is an idiot (to state the obvious). I'm sure they gave the SANFL little more than 2 or 3 mins airtime in a 4 hour show.

At least as a South supporter I haven't had to watch South juniors/developed players running around for an opposition. One benefit of not having any draftees.

You do realise they vet the calls beforehand

So are you saying if you rang up and said I wanna talk about south Adelaide they would say no?

I would not be the least bit surprised if that was to happen...

Rang up to talk Norwood, told maybe a call back around 6.25pm.
Happens everytime.
All calls vetted.

Most of the time they will ring you back, if they don't want to give you much air time they will ring you just before the news.
It's the same with emails, if it's not concerning their latest "jumper-gate" or "whatever drummed up nonsense we can think of-gate" it won't get read, if however you wanted to say how great the AFL is then that'd be just swell.
I've sent in emails when Rowe has been advocating for SANFL players to be picked up by AFL clubs in a mid season draft suggesting that if he's advocating for SANFL clubs to be totally stuffed around in this way he should resign from his state duties.....didn't get read out. Shortly after an email gets read out that suggests it'd be great for this to happen.
Rucci will take a slasher to any text or email to take it totally out of context so as to not put forward a compelling argument. Wouldn't want anything to upset his latest agenda.

Patrick Smith and Kevin Bartlett brought this up on SEN this morning, and I thought "oh here we go", they'll defend the decision as Rowe and McDermott would. To my surprise, thankfully they both condemned it as outrageous and being a no-brainer that if a player hasn't qualified then it's bad luck! They weren't happy with the prospect of decisions like this cheapening the value of another competition.

Yeh I heard that JK, was a bit surprised also. They totally overlook that the VFL is compromised by numerous salary caps for stand alone clubs, aligned clubs and AFL reserves clubs. At least they acknowledged the farce that it is. There's been a few grumblings in the VFL about starting a break away comp that doesn't include AFL alignments. If Williamstown's appeal doesn't get through I wonder if it will add a bit of fuel to the fire.
