Comparing the SANFL to the Canberra league?
Where teams come and go from one year to the next?
A greater load of twaddle I have not read.

It also completely contradicts what a current football journalist in Canberra is seeing:

Canberra journalist earlier in this debate wrote:interesting power says they'll ensure not all their players have surgery during sanfl finals. the swans and giants reserves play in the neafl. every year the swans make the grand final, then lose because half the side is out injured, or doesn't go hard because they dont want to get injured in case they called up to the seniors. in the giants case, in the year before they went into the afl they rested about 10 players due to "injury" yet the players were all there watching and had nothing wrong with them. both clubs use the neafl for fitness and development and nothing else, couldn't care less if they won or lost...

"We would readily work with the SANFL on designing policy to ensure that the club neither weakened its commitment to winning finals nor sought to gain unfair advantage over its rivals during such."

what a load of garbage...
John Olsen, June 2012 wrote:"Reserves teams in the SANFL for the two AFL clubs is not negotiable.
We will not compromise the SANFL competition (with AFL reserves teams)."

Really strange article in the Tiser. It's intended to show that Crows & Power 2nds would be good for the SANFL comp, and yet:
1. It's accompanied by a photo of the Swans AFL side having won the 2005 AFL flag (in case there was any doubt where the real benefit is meant to lie)
2. It mentions in passing that the 2005 Swans reserves side was 'undefeated', but doesn't dwell too much on what happened in the comp that year, in particular the 200+ point floggings which I suspect didn't do much for the prestige of the Canberra comp
3. It manages to gloss over the fact that Weston Creek (if I haven't misremembered their name) struggled and folded shortly after 2005, and the Wagga Tigers left the comp, and ultimately shortly before the invention of 'NEAFL East conference' (injecting Sydney teams in as well as GWS 2nds) I think was down to life-support levels of 5 Canberra clubs plus Swans 2nds
4. Again, no mention of the modified rules and restrictions (which varied, but often were 'no more than 12 Swans-listed players on the ground at once') intended to even things up a bit.

If this guy was moving to Canberra to chase his dream of being an Aussie rules football supporter, then frankly he must have been pretty lazy & incompetent for all of these things to skip his attention in his retelling of the tale. If on the other hand he was only going there to be an 'AFL' reporter, it's sadly not surprising that he didn't care less what was happening to the Canberra comp. But then why would you hold that comp up as a template for SANFL fans to follow?

And yes, as has already been noted, the real takeaway here for AFL clubs is 'it doesn't matter how lopsided the comp or how weak the opposition, the real benefit comes from having your 2s play as a unified team under your club's coaches'. So: there's no downside to them playing in SANFL reserves, ammos, or for that matter the NEAFL East conference, after all. Glad we've settled that.

he also forgot to mention 2000 when the Swans side in the Sydney comp (called the Redbacks) won the minor premiership then withdrew from the finals series.

or even 2012 when the Swans made the NEAFL East final as runnaway leaders only to have some interesting "ommissions" for the Grand Final and lose to Queanbeyan.

Nice counters Simon and Phil, you've seen what he put on the table and raised it substantially.
Canberra writers and AFL Club Presidents can shove AFL reserves sides in the SANFL right up their A R S E!

Not read this post for a long time but FINALLY some sense .... leave it as it is don't change a thing ! Albert Einstein strikes again.
Just need the Crows to xxxx off now and business as usual.
Have not caught up on the Crows proposal but Rucci on radio this morning said it was poorly pitched and would be laughed at.

I know of one president who labelled it an "insult".

And people wonder why I hate the Cows more than Port.
They think the world revolves around them
Maybe they should start worrying about drafting some decent players or adressing their plumetting attendance records before having a crack at the comp that gave birth to them

Surely couldn't have been any worse than Port's first 'One Club' proposal...that was like something out of primary school in both its substance and design.
Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently.

Listening to Norths president at the minute and I'm under no doubt he's flipped. Things are going to get ugly.

Flipped as in he is now supporting it???

Time for another email to the club then. Funnily enough my last, polite, email hasn't been answered. Maybe it's time for some stronger language.

I don't know if he has despite how he came across. He was giving a "balanced" view type of speech re the initial No from North before the club seeing any sort of submissions to now where they are at least going in open minded to look at the final AFC and PAFC submissions. He did say (in his own roundabout way / style) that both will have to have compellingly good reasons and not just financial for them to be adopted.

He did say once he and the NAFC Board have been presented with all facts and figures etc. they will let all members and supporters know just where it is all at.

Still along way to go IMHO before anything is adopted.
Piss weak SANFL and the CLOWNS who run it.
