It is Port Magpies, and of course West who breached the Salary Cap in 2012...

SANFL Media Release wrote:

TWO CLUBS CHARGED WITH SALARY CAP BREACHES

The SA Football Commission wishes to advise that two SANFL clubs have been charged with breaching the 2012 Salary Cap.

Player payment details from the West Adelaide and Port Adelaide Magpies Football Clubs were presented to the Commission today (Tuesday, November 27) by the Salary Cap Auditor for deliberation.

West Adelaide has been charged with breaching the nominated $360,000 cap by $38,319 in the 2012 season.

Port Adelaide has been charged with exceeding the cap by $19,887.

Under the SANFL’s Salary Cap regulations, each club faces a potential $50,000 fine, which is the prescribed penalty for any club recording a Salary Cap breach of between $10,000 and $50,000.

However, the SA Football Commission can impose additional penalties at its discretion.

“All clubs are fully aware of the Salary Cap regulations and know that the potential consequences of breaching the cap can be very serious,” Mr Davies said.

“Correspondence was sent to both clubs this morning and they now have 14 days to respond to the charges before an official penalty is laid.

“It is important to note that in both cases, the clubs voluntarily disclosed the information to the Commission.”

The way people were carrying on I thought West had gone over the cap by $100,00 ;)

Still not good, thats an ordinary 'accountancy" mistake.

Over $1000 a game so you could safely say the breach was worth at least one decent recruit!

Apparently the Dogs may be taking one of Ports more expensive players of them for next season!

$50000. Can either club afford to pay that amount?

Meiklejohn or Harder? I think they have been courted by the Dogs in season's past as well...

What kind of reception do you think you'll get next time you work in a media capacity at Norwood Oval BP?

I think your pushing of the 'alleged rumour' may have been noticed!

We'll see I guess.

That's the interesting bit .. If the SANFL were to withhold the $ penalty for the dividend handed to the clubs would the clubs be able to cope?

Always find it staggering that clubs on such fragile financial footing over-spend (that includes my own club a few years back).

How much was Norwood over when they got banned from recruiting?

Not trolling just a question

Good to see all our charity going to one club being professionally spent.
Hope they never try to run a chook raffle down there as I honestly think it would be beyond their capacity/skills.
Despite making a GF West arent far behind them forking out so much in footy
operations last season to have crowds drop. Smart investing and cheating there too.

I think around the $30k mark mate .. Our problem was not apportioning one of the salaries to an off-field role, or something like that.

Either way, a breach is a breach .. All clubs can plead "it was an accident", possibly even legitimately, but your either over or under and thats all that matters.

Both AFL clubs in this town can't adhere to Salary Caps .. Very comforting for the care and control of footy in this state looking forward.

Thanks JK, the statement from the SANFL says a fine but doesnt say anything about a recruiting ban. Just wondering in relation to that. Did Norwood "own up" then?

It's not like we even have players good enough to be paying the cap as it is, but to be going over is very very poor.

The minimum penalty should be the same penalty imposed on Norwood for an accounting error ! MINIMUM.
Alternatively no penalty and fines and draft picks given BACK to Norwood. That makes more sense to me

The MMCM must read this site, he just tweeted this

When @NorwoodFC breached cap by $30,250 in 2008 they were fined $50k + 12 month recruiting ban. #SANFL

Just get rid of the ******* thing. The comp survived for over 100 years without it.
The AFL can give us 30k for the Crows license, 2 bottle tops for Ports and then we can tell them to go and get ******.

Norwood did 'own up'.
It seems West and Port also "owned up".

Has the SANFL ever actually caught a club out, by itself?
