Where do I start .. :D ?

A whole season, 10 months training, 22-24 games, almost 100 quarters, probably about 7000 possessions per side and it came down to one straight / wayward kick.

And in that fine line of one kick it's result is a gulf between winning and losing the last game of the year.

I thought I knew a fair bit about footy and administration but working at the Eagles full time the last week (on leave from my main job) was a real eye opener in terms of the preparation and high stakes that comes with playing in a GF.

Central showed everybit of the character, self belief, fighting spirit and just plain guts that has made them a power this past 12 years, a club that can never be written off, a club fully deserving of respect. With a 4-2 ledger in GF's and the way this one finished I think has truly set up a great rivalry for the future.

I know there has been much discussion about supporters and who had how many etc

Its conjecture but here is what I think.

Two weeks ago we started a plan at the Eagles to ensure that if we made the GF the teams would receive the maximum fan support possible.

Yes the Eagles fans were outnumbered but I think unlike some years past they were not intimidated.

By encouraging as many as possble to meet inthe NW pocket (Thanks SANFL for moving the McDonalds bannner) and by distributing 3,500 fans clappers into that area we both had a united and loud group. Certainly the loudest in any Grand Final since maybe 1993.

What was even better was seeing the massive number of kids decked out in Eagles colour. These kids are the future of our clubs fan base and engaging them has been my #1 aim these past 3-4 years at the club.. They know nothing of our poor efforts pre merger or even the GF losses 2000-05 ... what they know is that the Eagles are winners ... and they just had a massive day following them to premiership glory. I think they will be back for more.

Thought the speaches of McKenzie and Godden were brilliant too in the way they included the whole club not just the 21 who played.

Thank christ I dont have to hear Central District, reigning premiers for at least 12 months :D

Well done to the Eagles boys on here too that take alot of crap (especially MickyJ)

Thanks Brodlach ;)

Hopefully whufc is there to keep him company. They can swap Phillips jokes as a reminder of the good times.

Get it stuck right up you.

Bad luck to the sane, smart Dogs fans, your team has awesome resilience I could only wish for my team to share.

Well played to the Eagles, they, despite toweling us three times out of four, never impressed me but finish as deserved premiers and as proof I know very little about Footy.

Roll on 2012.

Cheers mate, we tried to get the boys up. It's a group of friends that train together at a gym/boxing class, "the machines". Some of the doggies boys did pre-season and trained with us during the year, Chad, eddie, Justin, willow, Brayden, gowza's and a few more. Our "instructor" trained some of the guys Wednesday nights. I don't think we could be accused of being front runners. Next year hopefully. P. S there was some doggies girls, amongst us also, that post here.

Geeezzz I'm so wrapped that my Eagles hung on to win. We were clearly the better team on the day and as such deserved the win. I thought that last qtr was never going to end and was quite relieved to hear that final siren. We now become not only the last team to beat CD in a GF but 2 times winners. I've been saying all through out this years finals series it reminded me of 2006. Just so proud of all the lads in the Blue, Green, Gold.

Devastated for the Doggie Machines, especially Hardy. He had put so much extra effort in this year. We really missed him. He also made the boxing classes very friendly on the eye. ;)

GOLDEN GREEK
The most skillfull player in this game was Jimmy the teenager
He truly is an amazing talent to do what he has done in finals at 17 years of age

INSIDE 50
The non availabilty of Sibenaler, Hardy, Obst was a telling factor
Inside 50s at 3/4 time about
EG 38 for 15 marks
CD 31 for 3 marks

EG marked 39% of the time
CD marked 9% of the time

FIGHTBACK
The CD fightback in the Last quarter was outstanding
Perhaps the greatest SANFL finals fightback Ive seen

CHOKE ?
The Spurr last shot
Had it gone thru for a goal I wonder how many ''choke '' posts on here
I would not have called it a choke, having viewed the last stanza, Im convinced it was CD upping the ante

First I personally and publicly wish to thank Phil H for an outstanding job - was really hard to do my stats role and make noise with the clapper! Phil's work in raising our profile with the western community and kids throughout our zones has been fantastic.

Second I very much appreciate the words being put on here about us and the recognition we are receiving as are the dogs - a great rivalry continues.

Dog_ger thank you for your kind words - most of my energy now into other areas of the club (appointed vice president this year) as we have such a talented team getting the info out to members via our web, email, twitter and facebook feeds - all welcome Thursday night at the club as I still do the raffles and members draws. Should be a good one this week!!!

The feeling with this premiership is the best of our 3 so far in my opinion - still on a high!

What a sensational game. Hats to the Dogs; but this is the year of the Eagle again.
This Dogs V/s Eagles rivalry is starting to take on epic status. I look foward to driving past the chimney for the next 12 months
Oh and to that eastern suburbs coach..you could learn a lot from Godsey (the guy who touched you up 3 out of 4 times this year and has just won the PREMIERSHIP with a team that is not that good in your eyes !!)

Was with mate from work who had his 7yo son with him. Mate follows Sturt but his son goes to Henley and was collecting those clappers after to game so he could give to his mates at school. Great marketing and promotion for the club.

Those last few minutes yesterday were absolutely nerve racking and if we had lost it, it would have been soul destroying for the club. But it didn't and we are 2011 Premiers. Watching the game again and probably will watch it every day for the next 6 months.

As I stated about a month ago Centrals had W W L W W W L W W W W and now in 2011 a L.

God this is a good feeling.

Believe it or not, I'm actually enjoying reading the posts from you Eagles faithful.
Good on you guys.
I also think the posting between the two supporter bases is acknowledgement of the mutual respect that is shared between the clubs.
I even noticed it on the field, prior to us departing for our miserable Chrsyler limo ride home, with blokes like Scott Lewis going over and offering their respect to their fallen opponents.
Great stuff.

This is a reason why I love sport and especially Aussie rules.

Still bloody burns though! Don't get me wrong. If the players are as bereft of happiness as I am, I know they'll be back next year.

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDooooogggggggggssssss.

And Phil H, I saw you busting your boiler outside the ground yesterday and was going to say "g'day". But you looked bloody busy - thought I'd leave your time to your own. You'll look back when things settle and appreciate that time as your contribution to a great day for your club.

Also, BP thanks for the shout out on Life FM, sadly my vocal declaration was wrong.
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.
