They interviewed the three umps. Williams said it was the best atmosphere he'd ever been a part of. Fila said it was better than any of the AFL games he'd umpired. Lairdy will coach next year. Said the crowd got the players up in the third quarter. Mentioned that at least five players wouldn't have been available if they had to come back next week.
R Paze (retiring) from the SANFL, made a very good speech. Congratulated all, including Schelly. Made special mention of Chris and James, thanked them for being great ambassadors of the SANFL during his time heading up the commission.
So far Williams and Scotty Dutschke best on ground.
It was mentioned a couple of times they couldn't believe Lawry, wasn't in the team of the year.

I enjoy the unveling every year we win, but did it seem that there was less people this year than previous years?
Would have been interesting if Grima was there :D
Thats what im talkin aboooouuuut!!!!!!

Interesting that the umpires generally get credit in GF's (both AFL and SANFL) for umpiring well, but we seem to forget they are umpiring the GF's because they are the 3 best at their craft, the challenge for the league is to get the others up to their standard.

While Williams is about as experienced as you can get, and Fila's going to be another long-term SANFL ump, special mention should be made to Leigh Haussen - just his 21st league match and already umpired a Grand Final (and did a fantastic job). Was a bit of a running joke this morning that Haussen wasn't even born when Williams started umpiring in the lower SANFL ranks.

Forgot they also mentioned the deliberate out of bounds interpretation. Basically if the ball went forward and out that was okay (even if deliberate), a different interpretation to the AFL.
They also thought the bump by Callinan was fine and shouldn't be "sighted'.

Well, Phillips didn't "sight" it!

I made the trip down and probably like all Norwood supporters was absolutely gutted at the final siren, but tremendously proud of the effort to almost pinch the flag from a better rested and far more experienced opposition.

Very nervous start and unfortunately plenty of basic errors that plagued us for most of the match.
The second quarter was brilliant, but we stuggled like hell in the third.
Gave it a real go in the final quarter, but the margin, fitness/injuries and a cleaner opposition made the difference in the end.
Wasn't real impressed with the lack of 'play to advantage' calls in a couple of instances that burnt us as well.

The Norwood team will change next year, but all opposition should be wary of a club hungry for success.

Absolutely shattered after the final siren...but what an incredible game and what a gutsy never say die performance by the Legs....the entire club and it's supporters should be proud of the way they have turned their season around to play in a Grand Final....Nathan Basset, his coaching staff, CEO Dominic Shepley and the NFC Board have done a fantastic job this year and are starting to reap the rewards of some bloody hard work in recent times. Sunday's GF atmosphere was fantastic and the interest leading into and around the game hopefully is an indicator that the SANFL is here to stay....

The numbers to the chimney and after match party have slowly reduced and become less vocal over the years. Does anyone know how many attended Sunday night. I would guess it would be lucky to be half of the numbers attending in 00 & 01

The only complaint I got with the Grand Final umpiring was that holding the ball against Norwood in the first quarter that resulted in a Dogs goal kicked by Callinan (IIRC!)...that umpire stood there like a statue for what seemed like 10 seconds before he paid "holding the ball"...you know you're in trouble when the umpire doesn't immediately call "ball up" but instead stands there like a statue looking at the contest but, sheesh, he took friggin ages to call it!!!...

Agree that was a shocker, and the ump could clearly see Callinan was holding the ball under the Norwood player.

Question regarding the celebrations at HHO, why dont they hold them on the Oval?

Watched the replay last night and Duigan was CLEARLY just laying on top of the ball not attempting to get it out. Correct decision paid for mine, except Fila did pay it like an AFL umpire, could have called it quicker IMHO...

Just said on Channel 7 News that Ian Callinan has to front the tribunal after the match review panel had a look at his bump on Phillips...

Ok then how bout this. Duigan had the ball in one arm so the only thing he could do was drop it or place it on the ground = HOLDING THE BALL. Great call.

In the head and jaw area resulting in his jaw broken in four places.
Come on Centurion your a good and fair person but reverse the roles and honestly would you be saying the same ?
Head area from a frontal shepherd or attack is an automatic free kick and in many instances a report.
Callihan is a great player but in my honest opinion will miss the early part of next season from suspension.
