Ive made a comment on the Roost but will save myself from making a comment on here until I watch the game in its entirity on TV tonight so I might be missing for a couple of hours as Im going to make some notes.
Great to cach up with a couple of regular Eagles posters on here before the game in the Club rooms, LEH was very confident still that Sturt woulnd't win another game, whoopsy!

Great to catch up with you in the club today. Like i said it's good to finally have a face to put with the name. I agree with what your saying about umpiring. It's not about the number of frees but where their paid. But when you have knobs in your side like Coulter that go off at the smallest thing, If you look at the replay as I have already done you will find the umpiring certainly didn't favour one side and it definately didn't impact on the result.

You would have to say that match was a fantastic advertisement for the SANFL, being on TV. Both teams had the upper hand during the match, and overall the brand of footy shown by both sides today (contested, tough football) is a trademark of the best league outside the AFL. I thought that North were slightly better at the clearances and when they got the ball moving in the open, but I reakon our pressure when the ball was in play, in close (not at a stoppage), probably won that department overall.

I like to single out a piece of the action during the match, and this brought about our 14th goal, and the goal in effect, won the match as North kicked another afterwards to bring the gap back to three points. I can't remember who the North player was, but he took a long time to get rid of the ball from a mark. I think Passador knew that his time had ran out before play on was called, so he started to sprint to get there. Play on was called, and Passador laid the tackle, Fairclough picked the ball up and goaled. A classic definition of the term "footy smarts".

Also, if you are to win a match of football, you don't need someone like Josh Coulter to give away a goal like what he did in the third. A close match can be decided on who is the more disciplined team, and it only takes one player to cost a goal like Coulter did. I wouldn't be placing the loss squarely on an Eagles player if that was the other way around (and the result), but you don't need a player to give away a goal like that in a close match.

me2.that decision where shuey got pinged holding the ball will rot in my head for years.just after we hit the front, with momentum,he grabs the ball instantaniously grabbed and the f**** head of an so called umpire pauses, obv thinks im on stage here ill be the star ,holding the ball        i dont make it a habit of bagging those ******* ***** but ffs gifted the eagles a goal that was never there.and that was the worst 1 of many that the eagles got today.we were robbed all day.any eagles brave enough to say they were gifted the game?watch the replay and u will see my point.sanlf umpires at woodville today GO AND GET ****** U ROBBING SONS OF BITCHES.

I think that you need to have a good hard look at the replay again goraw. Yes the eagles got a grand total of 3 kicks more than you all day. I think you need to take a look at some of your players like coulter only he can blamed for his indescretion. I thought the umpires called it straight down the line yesterday of course there were maybe a couple of dodgy's but they even went both ways. I think it's harsh to say the Eagles were gifted the game. We grinded the game out better than you and we deserved the win. It's unfair for you to not give us any credit and then blame the umpires and say that was the direct reason you lost the game. Look forward to seeing you in september when we end another rooters finals campaign.

Apologies to goraw with my comment about it being Sporn who was caught holding the ball as I was thinking of a different incident.

Another point for you goraw. Schuey got called to play on had time to dispose of the ball correctly, didn't, got tackled. Simple mate. I think you'll find the umpire didn't pay a free at all he called play on as the ball spilled out and Fairclough picked the ball up walked into an open goal. Case closed, stop being such a sore loser.

WOW

this has got to be the worst case of sooking about umpires that i have ever read on any footy forum!!! reading the roost topic about this is also classic!

really, this is pretty pathetic. i actually would love to have a look at this game just to see for myself!! wedgie, your analysis of when you thought north was robbed was pure comedy gold!

you north fans better watch out or you're going to start getting reps for being sore losers and blaming the umps just like you say sturt has bandwagoners

i seriously cringed reading this thread like a cringe when sturtpeter logs on after another sturt win ;)

Thanks for the input Jimmy, perhaps you could watch the game and tell me where my analysis was incorrect?

Doesn't it strike you as weird or give any credibility to the comments made that these complaints have never occurred before on here.

I purposefully never whinge about umpires and made sure I watched the entire game on TV so if people disagreed with me they could advise me which points were incorrect in eyes and further discussion could ensue.

Perhaps watch the game before being judgemental as you have no cred on the matters discussed without witnessing them.

Cheers.

Jeesus, you touchy today Wedgeman.
IMHO - good game to watch, stuffed up by the Umps.
Inconsistent men-in-white decisions, and a poor third quarter, cost the Cocks.
And we've re-invented the Holding-The-Ball rule for one week, too! Sheesh...

No offence mate, but I think Kenny McGregor more than covered for Grocke and Kenny would be a slightly better player in most people's books Im sure?

Very different style of CHF .Grocke plays the more Fergus Watts type of CHF .Kenny is different and is a great pack marker of the ball and would have him in front of the likes of Perrie .
The EAGLEs today lacked the forward who goes up the ground and brings the ball into the fifty .This is the style of game Grocke has been playing this year.

Dude, you can't compare Grocke to McGregor and for you to suggest you actually lost something today by having McGregor at CHF instead of Grocke is laughable to say the least (and Im friends with Adams family). If Im wrong them Im sure Adam will end up playing a lot more AFL games than Ken.
At the end of the day I think having Ken in the lineup is what got us the win...... played well in the 2nd half
James you are right .ken went off for a rest or talking to came back on and played really well.

mate, its just funny coz some ppl are the first to jump on anyone who blames the umps yet its ok when they do it too??? yet, very few posts have dealt with the problems north can control, like how they let a lead slip like that??

oh well watever, i think i will get a replay of this game and watch it, equally to see this ump display and the fact it was a belter of a game.

so, after i watch the game i will definitely come back here to see if all this hoopla is worth it, imo.

How much have Perrie, White & Lonie played for the Roosters since 2004? Clearly you think these guys have been the catalyst for moving us back up the ladder which is news to me but I'll stand corrected  . Has nothing else changed at Prospect in that time to push the club up the ladder?

BTW, emember who was the Jack Oatey medallist in last year's grand final? Crows listed player.

The catalyst has been being able to pay for high priced recruits. Your AFL players are ring ins. Most of ours are home grown, including Skipworth.

North still haven't beaten the Eagles in an important game since Jarman took over as coach. All North's wins have been early in the year. I think that says more than the umpiring.

North supporters and the North club in general are the biggest bunch of sooks in the SANFL. Even more so than Sturt which I never thought possible. Bad losers. At least your mob aren't tearing strips off your own coach and players this time and instead have directed it at the umpires. There's always someone/something to blame.

That's a good point Jimmy, some have on here and The Roost but those posts are definately in the minority.
As my hangover and anger clears I'll try to analyse other aspects of the game.

I'll start with the ruck as the ruck contests between North and Eagles always intrigue me with O'Hara being an ex Eagle.
It was damn close contest with North just managing to keep their 2007 undefeated hitouts versus the competition in tact (31 - 29).

But just analyising the ruckmen its intriguing as to how close their stats were as it was a great battle:

Wakelin & O'Hara 27 hitouts
Lindsay & Dabrowski 27 hitouts

Wakelin & O'Hara 15 possessions
Lindsay & Dabrowski 7 possessions

Wakelin & O'Hara 5 marks
Lindsay & Dabrowski 1 mark

Wakelin & O'Hara 2 tackles
Linday & Dabrowski 3 tackles

PS Aerie, instead of making ridiculously generalistic sweeping statements feel free to address the actual content of posts and explain where in your opinion they were wrong. Cheers.

PPS You'd be just about the only Eagles fan I haven't met yet, got an interesting assessment of you from a fellow Eagles fan yesterday though.

Whoops, right you are, sorry about that, maybe next year at Woodville as the Eagles clubrooms are a fantastic setup.
I took a fellow North fan into there just after half time of the reserves and LEH and EHL came up to me and asked if I knew a Wedgie, I denied having any knowledge of him to start with and then waved them over having a laugh.
Even had Southwark Pale on tap, nice change from the stale West End draught in the North clubrooms.
And a supply of Sportsbeats to boot not to mention the great TAB faciltities.
I ended up not surfacing till the ressies was just about over.
Throw into the equation that Woodville lets people with a media pass park right next to the club rooms and I really enjoy my time at Woodville Oval these days (except for the results).

Even though North supporters are sooks I must say I enjoyed every Eagles supporter I ran in today, would have been happier if there were more but the one's that were there were great. :D
