I think that's a fairly recent Gentlemen's agreement between state leagues rather than a rule like the "fairest and most brilliant" in Magarey/Brownlow. Tough luck on that one Boydy, no doubt worse things were done over the year and not caught out, but I expect not by the likes of Symes, Cross, Liddle, Schmidt. Not losing your temper is part of being brilliant too I reckon.
I can't support the argument that someone like Brad Symes shouldn't be able to win a Magarey playing for the Dogs. A guy who grew up in the Centrals' zone, who played juniors and seniors for Central long before he was recruited to either AFL side (Dogs enough for you TSG?). And another respondent said something like "well done for having a crack at SANFL level, unlike other AFL players", well that is why. He's Dogs first.
I offer my congratulations to both Brad Symes and Joel Cross. It's a shame I only had the opportunity to see Cross play twice this year, I don't know his work nearly well enough. Top effort over a full season, well done.
