So if the Crows & Power did have sides in the SANFL, and say the Crows played Sturt, who would the Crow following Sturt supporters barrack for?

Personally, Sturt, but i probably wouldnt bother going if the game wasnt for points. I'm a Sturt member but will never be an Adelaide member.

I will be interested to watch Eddie McGuire Tonight on Sunday, he does an interview with Hawthorn president Jeff Kennett in which Kennett is quoted as saying he has knowledge that there is not a single journalist who reports on the AFL who is independent to the AFL. He reckons he has knowledge of journalists all over Australia who are on the "AFL payroll"

Could be interesting!

Attended a supporters night at the Ponderosa last night and, although probably not ground breaking news, certainly got the impression from an impeccable source that none of the SANFL clubs would be in favour of AFL reserves in the SANFL League comp. Having said that - I assume the SANFL Commission would have the final say - but would be surprised if they voted against the wishes of the clubs on such an important issue.

I think that's been the status quo for a while now. The repercussions from such a decision would be interesting though. Was reported on 5AA tonight that while the dividend to the SANFL clubs was assured this year, next year is yet to be defined. I'm sure this and the two AFL licences will be used as some sort of pressure.

I agree, Clive wouldn't do that.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Cheers. The lack of detail is outweighed by the finger pointing.

Rucci just continues to amaze. How the Advertiser keeps him as chief football writer is astounding.

I watched EMT last night and thought Jeff Kennett spoke with a lot of sense and agreed with what he had to say. He wasn't controversial for the sake of being controversial.

Was also good of Eddie McGuire to have Mike Fitzpatrick on after the Kennett interview to give a balanced ledger on some of the views Kennett might have had.

A) SANFL sides have NEVER had B teams in the amateur league.

B) My solution is to copy the NRL and have the AFL develop and fund an under 23 league, which allows maybe 3-5 overage players. That way young draftered guys stay together. Up and coming guys can get a run instead of the boring Under 18 championship which disrupts SANFL and WAFL clubs.

The Toyota Cup has been a huge success for the NRL.

It will kill the Under 18 championship and TAC Cup but will give the AFL clubs a development league which they all seem to want.

If both the NRL and A League can manage to run and fund U/23 & Youth League Comps, I can't see any reason why the AFL can't run there own 2nd Tier Competition.

The AFL could use both models and pick from them as to how they want to run a AFL Competition.
A-League Youth League - Not sure what the actual age limit is but they can field over age players.
Rugby League Toyota Cup - Is under 23 comp and any over age NRL players go back to feeder cups in NSW or QLD Leagues just like the AFL to SANFL scenario.

I really find it hard to believe that with the money AFL is bringing in how they can't afford to run a Reserves Comp. If the NRL can get Toyota to sponsor a U/23 Comp and Foxtel to broadcast a couple games a week then surely the AFL can get something like this done.

You play most games as Curtain Raisers, I understand that with the amount of games at MCG and Ethiad that this would not always work but these could be played at a Suburban ground with a time that fits in with the AFL game e.g. Crows play Carlton Saturday Night at MCG so Reserves play at Princess Park at 1.00pm, leaving 3 hours between games.

Apart from flights and Accomodation there would not be a lot of extra costs. One of the Assitanst to AFL tema would coach the Reserves, trainers and doctors would already be there.

All of this is easily achievable in terms of cost, if and when the AFL decides to stop "growing the game" I would think.

They'll just redirect funds from the state leagues and junior footy etc to fund it anyhow.
