Good call. He's being very diplomatic.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Mickan claims to have met all KPI's and yet was sacked for not achieving them and Massie has not had any communication with board ? Surely they should tell him what is expected of him and the KPI's would be similar?
Mickan said he had monthly reviews and what was expected of him was achieved .

Pressured by Cornes about appointing Jack Horan as ressies coach but Metcalf didn't want him really put Mickan on the back foot and allegedly Mickan resigned but he denied that but it certainly sounds like he did at that time. Cornes also asked who sacked Jack Horan but Mickan dodged that question so it sounds like he was sacked .

Some innuendo by the sounds of it around behaviour and a drinking culture with the players so this could also be an issue but loved Cornes comment "I suppose you can control that with the players but maybe not those above you at the club" . Interesting comment.

Certainly would have been a lot of pressure having to face a review panel which IMO is a joke .

I must say he is a poor communicator and that would have been tough for the players over a time but seems to have made the changes required of him yet still got sacked.

Cornes did a fantastic job in this interview IMO.

Metcalf seems to have his own way and that if you don't tow that line you're gone.

Well done Rubbers, you did yourself proud with that interview, well done to Graham as well.

Good luck in the future, let's hope you still stay involved in SANFL footy.

Bottom Line Punt.

One follows the club and not the coach.

The Mickan Era has ended.

I was in the Centrals changerooms after the 2007 Grand Final win against Glenelg. Losing coach Mark Mickan came in (as I believe is the tradition) and addressed the players, coaching staff, officials and supporters. He was very gracious, honest and chose his words well - I will always remember that and I applaud him for it.

I'm disappointed to see him sacked but can understand the reasoning behind it.

Agreed with the comments re Mickan in the Dogs room post GF mate, I was lucky enough to be in there as well and thought Rubbers handled himself very nicely on that occassion.

But fish, it was 2008 against the Bays mate, in 2007 it was Jars' Roosters. ;)

Whoops you're right BP - we win so many these days it's sometimes hard to keep track of who we beat in which year! 8)

RICHMOND, RICHMOND, RICHMOND.

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.

When any side wins 9/11 I'm sure we'll forgive them if they forget who they beat in every specific year.

The side which won 9/11 had the following wins in these years:

defeated (the empire of) Great Britain in 1842
eventually beat the Russians in 1989
knocked off the Septics in 2011, now that Obama is pulling his forces out.

'Although any period of 10 years is a decade,[2][3] a convenient and frequently referenced interval is based on the tens digit of the calendar year, as in using "1960s" to represent the decade from 1960 to 1969...etc etc

A coach did get sacked because of us though.

You can't deny that. ;)

I deny that. Mickan was sacked because he had lost the support of his board. One bad game doesn't lose a coach a job.

Even Laird has suffered the odd belting and we didn;t sack him for that!
We used to be good :-(
