The article states "Independent thinking was always at risk to the need to keep the SANFL clubs happy. Or more to the point the super voting bloc of five SANFL clubs - Glenelg, Central District, North Adelaide, West Adelaide and Woodville-West Torrens". Inferring these clubs vote together to the detriment of independent thinking.
On the contrary what was the vote with the structural change to the u16/u18s competition? Was it North, WWT for Glenelg and Central against? These clubs were not in agreement on this (a majority vote, led to the change). I believe this alone, defeats the paragraphs inference.
Even the recent Foxtel cup the mentioned clubs were divided 3 to 2 to participate.
The only recent vote that was in fact unanimous was declining the initial Port bail out, followed by approving the new financial plan.
I think if we're seeing a lack of independent thinking, it's not coming from the SANFL clubs, but from other "estates", pushing an agenda.
