My recollection of the report on 10 News...

* AFL to announce the comp next week.
* Clubs to receive invites in next day or so
* 5 Teams from ACT/NSW, 9 from SA/WA/Vic (CD, NW ,WWT from SA), 2 from TAS, NT
* $300K prize pool including $100K to the winner.
* Some games as AFL curtain raisers.

Assuming this report is on the money - It will be interesting to see how the SA clubs react accordingly. Not sure about others but if it does go ahead I would be shattered if my club declined the invitation.
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

Hmm, $100k to the winner is pretty attractive

I'd hope that we would accept the invitation. If a concern is about a couple of players with niggling injuries, play a couple of in form reserves players. It shouldn't have much of a bearing on the standard of the side, and I would be confident of either of our three teams depth to win matches if it comes to that.

Channel 7 have also reported Centrals, Norwood and the Eagles will be in this comp. Sounds like it's a goer now

Im all for the top 3 sides picking up injuries but I hope it doesn't mean that the state game next year doesn't go ahead, was looking forward to it!

PS Maybe Glenelg tanked in the finals so they'd miss out on this. ;)

PPS Im envious of the fans, I had a great time watching North in Darwin and NSW in recent times.

My guess is Centrals will reject the invitation, watch this league closely from the sidelines for the first season, and then if they finish top 3 in the SANFL 2011, possibly have a crack at this league in 2012.

Should a Central District, or North Ballarat reject though, how much credibility would this league lose before it even begins?

I am not so sure that the CDFC would reject the invitation, the fall out from doing so would be having to explain to their sponsors why they chose not to promote their brand nationally on Foxtel.

I would suggest if they reject it they won't be invited again.

Yeah, tend to agree there Dutchy...

I think there should be at least 4 teams from SA meaning the Bays would get a gig as well...

Who would be the 5 teams from NSW/ACT - Ainslie and Belconnen maybe from ACT then maybe East Coast Eagles from Sydney perhaps?

Wouldnt be trying to sneak the GWS in would they? Maybe a QLD side will be part of that group as well?

I would say its 5 from NSW / ACT AND QLD

QLD is probably 4th stongest state league after WA but before ACT, then TAS then NT then NSW.

Agreed that dropping the Bays for an extra team from ACT / NSW / QLD etc seesm to drop caliber of competition but maybe the idea is getting a wider range of teams in not just the powerhouses.

The fact that it's a knockout competition may explain why the Bays aren't invited......let someone else have their one game ;)

is it possible in 10 to 20 years tie we may look back at this movement and see it be the start of an epl style competition ??? with free agency due to come in th next few years and more clubs looking to strengthen there buisness portfolios would this be viable ?? I for one think this is the way the game should go . Not to say we dont have a great product in the SANFL but with the best playing the best and prehaps 40 sides playing each other in a say 4 division comp with a promotion / relegation system how good would this be . would be some great finals matches promotion / relegation battles !!!

It'll be interesting to see the attitude of the AFL clubs in different states to the idea of making their players available for additional games, especially if there are midweek fixtures.

From what I have been able to gather there wont be any requirement for midweek games so if anything it will solve the problem of AFL listed players not playing any footy when their SANFL club has the bye, (because they will be playing in this comp as long as their club is alive.)
