Not go ahead and form the Power to go into the AFL if the deal didn't suit? ;)

The $1.0m was not given to the PAMFC by the SANFL – it was provided by the PAFC and made up of approx $770k to set up the PAMFC and an additional $230k SANFL to AFL player transfer fee. The other SANFL clubs with players in the original Port Adelaide AFL squad also received these payments
The AFL 2nd licence proposal had the Port Club distribution of 80/20, but was altered by the SANFL League delegated to 85/15 – this was later changed back to 80/20 at the instigation of the PAFC.
The delegates also insisted the PAMFC not be allowed to train at Alberton (so Ethelton training facility was established), not allowed to have any administration functions at Alberton (premises had to be rented on Port Road) and PAMFC merchandise could only be sold at Alberton Oval on match days.
Hopefully, One PAFC will correct the above.

Gravel, where did the money come from the upgrade of Riverside club rooms, when the amalgamation of Riverside, Alberton United and Ethelton went through to allow the Magpies to move to Ethelton, so the Power could have Alberton?
Did that come from the Power or the Magpies?

The money spent on Ethelton barely made the place suitable for SANFL league footballers to use. Some of the money ( the $1m ) must have gone to admin costs as the Magpies admin side had to move to Port Rd premises.

So in the end the 'Pies got an average suburban ground to train at and had an overhead ( renting the admin building ) that they did not have before.

Sure as hell $1m doesn't go that far.

SANFL Port curtain raisers. Hope there's not many of them and I hope Sturt aren't playing any of them.

I thought at the time they were given $1 million to fund the move? Anyway, that's in the past.

It may sound like whinging but I dont really care. Pretty much all the $1 million went on trying to make facilities at Ethelton somewhere near SANFL standard. $1 million doesnt go far when you have to start from scratch. Given the club then had no clubrooms and could only pull 15% from the Port club, is it really any wonder that the club has struggled to make a buck, whilst clubs like Centrals print their own money out of their pokie fortress, when this revenue stream has become so important to SANFL clubs.

Whilst there have definitely been mistakes along the way, its not like the club havent been proactive in trying to turn things around. There was the $2 campaign in what...01/02? which everyone mocked but hey...at least the club recognised the future issue and tried to do somtehing about it. They bought a pub, which unfortunately turned into a disaster whilst most other clubs were making loads of cash.

So its not like the club has been sitting on its hands going woe is me. Theyve been trying for years to turn it around.

No mocking from Centrals....they gave you Bowen Lockwood PLUS $1.30 to bring it up to the $2.00.......

1. I want Port in the SANFL! ( full stop) BUT! I cant believe the 11 pages of garbage I have just read on this topic. My memory is that Port wanted to jump the fence years ago to the AFL and now are the poor little bugger who is broke and no one knows who the real Port is. Well go >please don't avoid the swear filter< you all and fight out of no cash flow like the Norths, Norwoods and the Sturts to name a few.

You'd be pissed off if you're someone who just likes getting along to some value footy. Screw paying AFL entry costs if you just want to see your team.

When we played Port in 1997 as a curtain raiser to the Power, we all walked out before the AFL game, couldn't even tell you who the Power played that night.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Oh good one beenreal - bring up the old "Rob Gerard saved North" story again! FFS - don't comment on something you know nothing about! However if Gerard was a PAMFC supporter he would have told your Board years back not to buy a dud of a hotel like the POW. You can renovate it and paint it up all you like but that is not going to make the masses flock there to spend their $$$.

It costs more to go to a AFL game than a SANFL so the extra money supporters pay will all help PAMFC profits for that day.

i reckon the SANFL should make it a conditions that for every other SANFL club that is "forced" to play a curtain raiser against the Magpies before a Port Power "theatre experience" they should get a free ticket for every member they have from the AFL and Port Power.

1. Rewards the true supporters of the SANFL clubs- their members
2. Helps get's "Bums on seats" which is the issue of Port's and Crows bottom line issues - nobody wants to pay to go see them and consequently spend money at Footy Park.

Any tickets not taken up by the members the SANFL club can on sell at a discounted rate e.g $10 to other "supporters" so the SANFL clubs get an additional revenue stream.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
