I dunno about an AFL club snatching Rick up though....would they? He's unknown to virtually everyone in the AFL system, not too many players with an exclusive SANFL background in coach's boxes.

If he continues with the massive turn-around next season I am sure people will notice - I have already heard that come up on 5AA from on of the Sat afternoon guys.

I started a topic after Sturt had won 3 games praising Rick and people told me I was crazy and that it was too early to tell if he'd improved Sturt or not!
It takes some longer than others to work out things.

hondo im not a centrals supporter barrack for the roosters.
Rick was treated shabby at the roosters as a youngster by the little man. Amazingly he went to Pooraka with some mates and couldnt get a regular game in the A-Grade he then went home to Dark Peake and arrived back at Centrals which he turned himself into a star (unlucky not to win a MM). Surely Jars would be kicking himself for not keeping him at the roosters when he was asst coach a couple of yrs ago or was he worried about his own sit. Keep smiling Rick

Their whole immediate family are great people.
His old man, Dusty, is an absolute legend back home.
His brother Damien is also pretty handy at footy (and said by some to be better) but retied long ago and went farming.

I grew up on the Eyre Peninsula, and from memory Damian is Rick's cousin not brother, but someone else might be able to confirm that.

You've thrown me into doubt, but i'm pretty sure rick and damien sprang forth from the same mother and father.
Damn it GWW, it's embarrassing if i'm wrong, but i'm just about certain, brothers.

I have been wondering for a while where this "backhome" place is, alot of my country mates talk about it.. is it near Hawker?

yeah ok my grandparents had a farm on the otherside of the peake. his younger brother took it over and now his son runs the place spent many an afternoon looking up at that hill trying to work out how the hell my mum used to climb it to get to town

at least someone else here knows where the bloody thing is on the map

Sound's like you're on the western side of the peak.
My parents own a lot of property there now.
One lot, our home lot, borders the edge of hambidge reserve and also harbours what used to be the local water source, the monument dam.
We also own just over half of rex kobelt's old farm on the other side of the peak, closer to town.
And if your mum had to walk over the hill to get to town, she was either very keen, or stupid. lol.
That's no mean feat, that hill.

But it shows that the SANFL is not an ignored back-water when it comes to coaching potential being spotted by AFL clubs

Particularly 2 AFL clubs based here in Adelaide would be having a close look I reckon - I would!
