After this week all teams were rostered for a bye in the following couple of weeks. Surely they could juggle the draw so that the teams all have the bye this weekend.
Provided the lockdown ends next week, this week's round could be played on the weekend on July 31st and Glenelg vs Norwood and West vs Sturt be moved to the weekend of August 7th. In other words those 4 teams have their bye this week instead of August 7th. The remaining 6 teams have their bye this week instead of July 31st.

I think you'll find that is currently the preferred option RIG at the SANFL.

But it sounds so sensible... so obviously the AFL won't allow this ;)

I didn't realise there were still byes - yes, your suggestion makes sense. Fingers crossed we can get a full season in.

come off it, will take till wednesday for those nongs to realise whats happening

They have to wait for the AFL to tell them what to do...

They should cancel the season with no winner.

And it looks as though it hasn't been allowed,

No SANFL this week which seems ludicrous given that other entertainment venues such as Cinemas are allowed to reopen with limitations from tomorrow.
All I can think is that because both Adelaide AFL teams are in Melbourne this weekend and all of their reserves are over there as well, they can't get back for this weekend without quarantining and they therefore have managed to stuff this round of the SANFL.

Why dont they just adjust the fixture and play the sanfl showdown in Melb this weekend?

Wouldn’t have enough players over there, doubt any top up players are in Melbourne

It would be the second ever SANFL game played interstate, following Norwood v North in the 50s at the SCG.

Play 9 a side if they have too.
Result means jack shit anyway.

I presume SANFL will restart on the weekend of the 7th and they'll extend the season 1 more week and tack on Round 16 at the end of the minor round?

The rumours are the season pushed back two weeks GF back to its traditional long weekend time slot

The SANFL has released the fixture for the remaining games.

Basically round 16 has been moved to the last round of the minor round

Games start on 7 Aug with the GF being played on the long week end of the 3rd October.

'“For many years, the October long weekend was a really successful tradition for the SANFL Grand Final so both the League and Clubs agreed this was the most favourable date to conclude what has been another unprecedented season due to the Covid pandemic,” Mr Chandler said.'

Since the SANFL believes having the GF on the long weekend is so successful, they could consider leaving it there.

The biggest crowd this century wasn't on a long weekend so they'll always have a good argument to change it back unfortunately.

Begs the question, how many more would the Roosters and Redlegs have attracted had the game been in October?

One thing for sure is that premiers like North and Glenelg would have drawn much bigger crowds back at the club on Grand Final night if patrons didn't have to work the next day. I know of at least 20 family and friends who didn't go to Prospect on the night because of work or school the next day. North still had a very big crowd as did Glenelg the next year.

Less.
We got 36,685 in 2013 on the long weekend. It did seem more though, Footy Park seemed pretty full.

Why are they still persisting with a Split Round having just had 2 weeks off! Should’ve just had the GF the week before. Holidays are already booked for the long weekend!
