For information of the Eagles membership structure, can I refer anyone really interested to CD's Membership Report and CD2's CEO Summary in our annual report which you can access off the below link on the club's web site.

Phil - great work with the membership. Keep up the good work!

We surely must have one of the best strike rates in terms of converting fans into members? However given our small supporter base, how many of our current fans remained unsigned? As we go forward it is going to be harder and harder to grow this membership base because it is near saturation point. A club like Glenelg, for instance, with a much larger fan base (but smaller membership numbers) should accelerate past the Eagles if they placed more emphasis on selling memberships.

So hopefully the eagles keep going hard at convincing the kids early or converting non-footy people because that is the only way our membership will grow in the future.

So do the Eagles count free memberships, kids, life members etc. in their total?

The answers are in the annual report.

If everyone who received either an Eagles kids or adult membership pack was included, the grand total would be over 5,000.

The purpose of what the club does with its kids membership is not about inflating any figure, it's about linking in with as many kids as possible (especially those who play football locally), engaging with them through a specific range of activities and hopefully evolving many of them into life long Eagles supporters that will sustain our club for decades to come.

from the eagles annual report.

In 2012 we continued to focus our efforts on growing our Junior base
with our free Eagle One Macka’s Pack along with all the Auskick
participants and Junior players in our zones receiving membership.
In these two categories alone we have over 3,466 under 13 Juniors
linked to our Club. We now have a regular special Junior members’
newsletter emailed and available on the Club website to keep our
Junior members involved. A big thank you to Phil Herden, and all
those who assisted with the Junior members’ program. Whilst I could
report a record membership of 5000 this would be highly inflated for
it counts the above categories. Using the same categories as for 2011
we had 3,628 members in 2012. I would like to sincerely thank all the
1,981 fully paid passionate and proud, members for the 2012 season
(an increase of 573).

huh?

This all shows how meaningless membership figures are unless they are broken down into the various categories (paying adults, volunteers, life members, past players and officials, kids, social pokie players etc...).

Clubs can easily manipulate them from year to year just by going to few extra schools and signing up some more junior members for free if they like.

I think many people would be surprised at how few full paying adult members there really are at some clubs...

You're saying South might actually have less than the derisory figure they're publicly acknowledging?

You're kidding right?

So the clubs with lots of members e.g. Sturt and Norwood prop up the membership returns of the likes of west and South? Communism died in 1991.

Yep. You have twice the amount of members and probably 3-4 times the amount of supporters, Also worthy premiers in 2012.

I guess your income and surplus was 2-3 times higher as well? Is that your point?

What would be interesting to find out is in addition to the gross membership numbers for each club, how many of those are season ticket packages.
