Salary Cap Issues - Norwood, West & Port

All discussions to do with the SANFL

Re: Norwood and West over Salary Cap?

West in breach as runners up is one thing

But IF the premier breached the salary cap then that really taints the result.

I say IF because
- I think Norwood are denying
- They had a horific run of injuries for their senior players which should reduce their payments.

That said I will add that from my basic understanding of the SANFL salary cap mechaincs is that is looks like a bowl of spaghetti .... having to estimate pre-season your AFL listed player involvements (it is nominally included) and injuries to senior players is a recipie for disaster.
I personally wonder if the system could not be made a little simpler which would free up limited staff resources into procatively promoting and growing clubs.

I would be very surprised if they under estimated AFL player involvement especially considering the injury to Will Young, was it Brown surprisingly playing AFL.

Unless they thought Phillips was going to play all year with the Power but surely no one is that stupid! ;)

So far from memory Central & Eagles from 2000, South, West, Norwood & North have all had salary cap breaches to varying degrees over the past 13 years.

Most have been minor, South's seemed the most extensive and deliberate.

That leaves Sturt, Port & Glenelg without a breach.

WHY??? We have only been found guilty once which was for buying the players DVD players AFTER the GF win.

Would think there's a bit of a difference to having player wages over the salary cap, especially for a second time LOL

I can hear the chant now "you only win when your cheating" "win when ur cheating"

Has made my Wednesday entertaining

Kym Russell said it was due to injury payments as they didn't get as many injuries as they thought.

According to one source of mine, there's another team set to be named so I wouldn't get too cocky yet.

Depending on who you listen to Sturt break the Salary cap on a regular basis by not paying anything out at all ;)

Jealousy is alive and well!! I doubt we'd get caught again after 2008!! Storm in a teacup!!
Nothing to worry about, we are and always will be 2012 Premiers!!! ;)

Here are the tweets from MMCM
The twitter feed of the Monday Morning Centreman column. Nobody watches more live SANFL footy.

Have spoken to @NorwoodFC. Have emphatically denied Triple M report they breached the salary cap. #SANFL

Reminding people they didn't pay Eagleton a cent after he left and McGuinness & Newton missed out on match payments. #SANFL

Bassett also played a host of kids at $250 a game. Hard to see how they could've gone over. #SANFL

And on West Adelaide:

Clubs structure their cap relying on a certain number of injuries. @WestAdelaideFC didn't have as many as expected. #SANFL

Club was aware they'd breach the cap and informed the #SANFL early in the piece. Good run of health is the cause.

Bloods face fine and potential recruiting restrictions. SA Football Commision will hand down penalty at a meeting later this month. #SANFL

MMCM ‏@mmcmsanfl
@WestAdelaideFC has admitted to breaching the cap. Just confirmed with CEO Kym Russell. #SANFL

Looks like they could be in the pooh!!

Better than being the Alf Garnett of the SANFL I guess.
