I reckon I'll celebrate GF day by hosting a barbie at my place. A few mates, a few frothies, a few snags ... and when it's time for the telecast, we'll all sit around in the back yard and watch the grass grow. Got to be more exciting than watching Norwood grind it out over West. Hearty congratulations to you Norwood fans, your team has been dominant all season, may you enjoy what you are about to receive. You're the only ones in the state who could possibly enjoy it.

Footy season is over; see you all next year.

Last time West Adelaide and Norwood met in a Grand Final was the Turkish Bath Grand Final in 1961.

U/18's - Sturt
Reserves - Central
League - Norwood

Like most of us I don't want to see that ultra defensive - BS next Sunday. As all of the Norwood v West games have been broadcast this year, (gee thanks ABC TV - SA!) (while we're at it, it so seemed that Port had pretty much 2/3rds of their season Broadcast on the ABC TV game, Please explain!!!!!) We've all had our chance to judge them. So I'm sticking with Norwood for the League Premiers. I think they play much like the Sydney Swans. They have a decent attack, and by far and away the best defence in the competiton this year. West on the other hand were statistically the least attacking side in the competition over the minor round. Plus any side that is a record 5 games clear as minor premiers for the year, should take out the big one! Norwood to win by at least 4 goals.

As far as the Reserves go, the contest at the Parade in July was dominated for most of it by the Dogs, but they didn't lock the game away. Letting the Redlegs back in, to get over the line by a few points. It could be the opposite result next Sunday! Here's hoping the Bulldogs do. Can anyone let us know if a side has won the Reserves Premiership before from the Elimination Final. I know it's happened twice in League ranks, Norwood 1984 and Port 1998, but I don't know about the Reserves. Can someone post! Cheers.

Just looked this up (http://australianfootball.com/articles/ ... od+1961/17) as I was intrigued why it was called Turkish Bath Grand Final. Because it was 35 degrees...

Anyway, reading that, I didn't know Norwood were called the Demons?

Good luck to Norwood and West. Norwood have been easily the most dominant side all year. West have comfortably been amongst the top 3 and have proved in the finals to be the most deserving team to challenge Norwood. I don't think Norwood will have it as easy as the 2nd Semi, but having been around the mark for a few years under Bassett and having only lost 2 games all season they should get over the line.

As West could only beat a North side plagued by errors, poor judgement plus a poor mind set and only won by only 21 points, Norwood by 7-8 goals in a canter

They were probably called that because they wore Melbourne jumpers for a couple of years during that time. Definitley wore them in the 1960 and 1961 GFs.
I think Alan Kiligrew introduced them.Glad that didn't last

Not so sure about that statement. Give West some real credit rather than blaming North for losing. Sure we toughed it out and went down fighting but West were the better team overall and in reality from half way thru the 2nd quaret we never looked likely. Many of our errors and our poor decision making was in the main due to the pressure West put on us!

Under 18's - Sturt (but hoping for the Eagles)
Reserves - Central
League - Whoever kicks six goals (would be nice to see former student Michael Chippendale play a big game though).

In the important match of the day though, West Torrens A Grade to defeat Kensington. ;)

Cheers

It wasn't meant to cast a disparaging remark against West's game today (maybe more thought into the post would have been better) they thoroughly deserved their win but I genuinely believe Norwood will win easy

you only play as well as the opposition allows you, amazing how when a side loses it because they were SO bad, not that the winners have played well

I am Tipping the Bloods by a goal.

A fortnight off played a lot more on Norwood's mind. This week will see them even hungrier & I expect them to rip Westies a new one!

Go the Legs.

Agree Topsy. West with an attacking midset might have more forward options.

Supposedly Norwood have more supporters than Centrals, West probably a few less than the Eagles, so if we get a nice day like today, should get about last year's 25k IMO.

As the Eagles only have 7 supporters, I hope you're not suggesting that Westies only have 6

Lets hope the weather is perfect and they give away 20000 free tickets. even with a freebie I would have to have nothing better on after enduring the 2nd semi last week
